Is it far fetched to think we'll see JJ play similar to Jason Campbell?
God i hope not. Campbell sucked for three years then finally put it together his senior year. I cant stand that comparison.

To me, JJ is a more accurate Cam Newton with less agility and top end speed running the ball.

Why must we make these comparisons?

Is it really necessary to compare him to one of the greatest college football QB's of all time? Cam completed 66% on the year but 6 times completed 70% (4 conference games) with one of those games at 80% (UGA).

whether some like to admit it or not, Cam was not very accurate on the short and intermediate routes. He over threw the WR more times than not but had damn near perfect accuracy on the deep ball. Now he did improve throughout the season, but he wasnt some awe inspiring passer. He was, however, unstoppable running the football.

So you think JJ will have a higher completion percentage by how many percent?

Everyone needs to just slow their roll a bit and realize that when Cam played/won at Auburn, the SEC was having a really down year like in 2004 and 1957. It really wouldn't be fair to JJ to compare him to someone who really didn't play any good competition that year and expect to exceed those goals/comparisons.

I think JJ will surprise some people with his running ability. No he will not be nick or cam but he can run better than most people think, 3rd and 3 I think most times he will be able to pick that up just like cam did. And his passing should keep the back 7 honest unlike this year when they could cheat up to take away parts of our game. The one thing I am interested to see is how he responds to adversity and in the crunch time when we need a play

I like how you all are comparing Johnson to all these qbs based on the 6 quarters y'all have seen him play.

Am i the only one who remembers we could not run the ball with Johnson at qb against Arkansas? Neither with Johnson running or the running backs. Yet somehow Johnson has become Randall Cunningham now.

well, looking into my crystal ball, i can see that he will average 3.8673023 percent more in SEC games and 6.365682057 more in non conference games.

Not hating on NM but JJ is a upgrade and Duke will have a big year with JJ at QB.

If you think he's better than Cam as far as accuracy make a prediction on his completion percentage. You clearly think it'll be higher than Cam's so I'll bookmark that and we can revisit it later.

It's more so based on the 3 games he saw heavy action in, and the other 8 games he saw limited action in. In each case, he impressed (most notably against Arkansas in 2014, one of the best defensive squads in the SEC).

Yet we found incredible success through the air. Auburn scored more offensive points when Jeremy Johnson played vs when Nick Marshall played, FWIW. Auburn scored 21 points on offense with Jeremy Johnson and 17 points on offense with Nick Marshall.

Yup... Bert sold out to stop what he thought was gonna be a first half handoff fest to the RB's while waiting for NM to return the 2nd half!

Didn't quite workout the way he thought it was going to as JJ went 12-16 with 243 passing and 2 TD's by halftime.

Alright alright, if i were to guess what his %, i would think that JJ would have 74% against non conference and 71 against SEC defenses

ETA: JJ will also be attempting more passes per game than Cam did imo.

I'm thinking the offense will still be run heavy 60/40 split. JJ ends up with 2500-3500 yards passing and adds 400-700 yards rushing. 68% completion on the year.

Guys, Cam was a horse. I think people forget how fast he was.

His size made him look slower than he was. He ran a sub-4.6 40 yard dash... that's RB speed. JJ's speed doesn't look comparable which is not a fair comparison to hold someone of his size to

But he should be fast enough to roll out and occasionally tuck the ball down.

That is the biggest thing I think people are overlooking. Teams will not be able to load the box like they did the last few seasons. That will help the overall running game.......provided we get solid OL play.

that will be the biggest factor for the offense this year. Not running backs, not quarterbacks, and not receivers. The line has to improve for the offense to flourish or we might need to run wildcat all year.

Our OL will be stout imo. Smith, Golson, Coleman, Young and whoever can lock down the last guard spot will make one hell of a offensive line.
