It's Cam, pretty easily.
Bo has the two sport thing going for him obviously but let's be honest he wasn't that great at baseball and his football career wasn't long enough to have a lasting impact.
Cam is the best football player in the world at the most important position in the world and doing things never done before. He won us our national title and if he caps it off with an MVP/Super Bowl season I don't know how Bo still has an argument.

Yep. "Bo Knows" was world-wide.
Cam may get their one day, but not yet... not yet.

Frank Thomas is the HOF. So..........
Bo Jackson is arguably the greatest athlete in American sports history. So.........
Rowdy Gaines is in the U.S Olympic HOF, the International Swimming HOF, and a three time Olympic Gold Medalist. So.........

No it's not.
This is not an old guy vs young guy argument.
Bo Jackson was the ENTIRE focus of a NIKE worldwide marketing campaign for years.
Cam is still pushing Oikos yogurt.
Simmer down son. Cam ain't there just yet.

The thing about Bo is, since he retired, he hasn't been in the public spotlight as much as Charles or Cam. That is changing however as we seen him in AT&T and 5 Hour Energy commercials.

Cam is pretty big with Under Armour, no?

Yep.
Also Oikos, Beats by Dre, Gatorade. I've read where Cam makes the 2nd most money on endorsements in the NFL (behind Peyton Manning).
Still, "Bo Knows" was a world-wide phenomenon. For YEARS.
Like I said previously, Cam hasn't made Bo-levels yet.
YET.

Cam is great and I LOVE him, but he is not even as big as Tom Brady yet.
Bo was epic.
Cam has potential to surpass BO.
Potential.

If Cam can continue playing at this level, he will be bigger than Bo
He is becoming a cultural icon like Bo. He just needs some more time to solidify that

I doubt Cam can ever become the most prominent face with today's media. Cam can become the face of the NFL though.
Right now I'd say Lebron is easily the closest to Bo's prominence.
Cam, Curry, Brady, etc are all close behind in a relatively big second tier of super stars. I think all the super stars today helps fracture up the fan bases so America really doesn't need another Bo. Just my .02.

Yeah. Bo was/somewhat still is in that category of MJ, Tiger, etc. cultural icons. Truly world famous aside from sports. Lebron is there as well.
I think Cam probably catapults above Curry but not really Brady yet. I think he can easily surpass Brady, but we're so used to Tom Brady we forget how prominent he was/is. Supermodel wife, recurring spots on Entourage and the like.
But aside from all this, Cam certainly has the skill and swagger to approach the elite tier which is likely to include MJ, Tiger, Bo, Lebron.

If he hadn't ruined his hip playing football, Bo would have been a first-ballot HOFer. Even without 'roids.
ETA: to answer the OP, during the brief stretch that Bo was at the top of his game, he was at near Jordan levels in terms of public notoriety. Cam may never reach that status, but he has a chance to have the greatest professional career of any former AU star.

Cam has potential, but that's a big mountain to climb. Bo hasn't played in 23 years and still has major advertising contracts. That's staying power. Bo didn't seek the spotlight...he couldn't escape it though.
Today, if you found a 5 year old named Bo, $10 says he's heard of "Bo knows." That's pretty damn prominent and an MVP, super bowl ring will help, but Cam's got a ways to go.

Yep, I've seen it on a teeball field. Kid named Bo, he probably heard "Bo knows ____" a couple of times at every practice from a coach.

When Bo was at the top of his game, around 1990, he was far far beyond Jordan in public notoriety. In fact, I'm not sure Jordan ever reached the peak levels Bo did around 1990. He was being talked about by every sports reporter/writer, he was being talked about by every other athlete in every other professional sport year round, he was the king of all marketing of any athlete worldwide by a huge margin, he was redefining athletics all the way down to the youth level. In the years before Bo, it was all about chosing a sport to specialize in and focus on by 9th garde if not sooner. Bo changed ALL that.
Jordan did not really begin the accent to the peak of his popularity until the mid 90s. It started after he won his first NBA title in 1992. Until then he was considered a ball hog that didn't make his teammates better and would never win a title. And it wasn't until the mid 90's after about Jordan's 3rd title that we started to reach his peak as far as prominence. Even then though, his gambling and the rumors around it made a lot of people into critics for a while. Anyway, I'm not sure if Jordan's peak in public notoriety and prominence ever actually surpassed Bo's. Jordan's peak just lasted many years more than Bo's so was of course greater overall.

I have some nephews that don't know many stars from today, much less the past, and they're like 7 and 8. I would imagine the average kid would fit that mold.

I grew up and was living in KC when he played there. I saw him play live a lot and he was incredible. I knew nothing about AU but I knew he was a good FB player and I remember being mad that he ruined his baseball career playing football

That said, Jordan was a pretty popular guy prior to his first NBA title - and I wonder if his attempt at playing pro baseball was inspired by Bo's two-sport excellence. But Jordan made more of an impact on his #1 sport, and his lengthy career probably puts him above Bo in the minds of the general public.
However, to put Bo's fame during his heyday in perspective: can you imagine any other athlete in history who could merit a Sports Illustrated cover for signing a minor league baseball contract?
