I think he has too. If our O runs the same herp derp plays, even Stevie wonder will know Gus is controlling and bad season = the axe. If O looks different (at least from passing/QB/situational play calling perspective) and we have bad season, he'd at least have an excuse of Chip.

But that's all moot. Cuz

Wan't he in control in 2013? Why would we want him out?

I look at Gus changing his policy on his QBs using outside coaches.

I want to believe this signals he's maturing as a head coach. If that's the case, then yes CL will be calling shots.

The other thing is all the money donors saw Stidham during last weekend's practice. A lot of people saying he could be one of the best arms ever to play for AU. People will get out the pitchforks if Gus wastes that talent and Gus knows it.

I think Gus mostly did let Rhett run the show after game 3 last year. And to Rhett's credit, he cut some of the super dumb stuff out of the playbook and drastically reduced negative plays.

The problem was Rhett was still way too much Gus's creature. He didn't have very much to offer that was new or fresh so the ceiling was kind of limited.

People ignoring what players are saying about Gus this season?

Can he fall back to taking over? Sure but I believe the players shoot pretty straight with their observations.

You're forgetting all the times, even in those years, that Gus let himself get in the way.

When his offense is rolling and has the right pieces, it's damn near unstoppable. If anything is missing, Gus will out coach himself, every time.

I think that version of Gus is broken, unfortunately. It's seemed like he's too in his own head the last couple of years.

After the Clemson game I was ready for a change. The Malzahn/Lashlee combo was not working no matter who was in charge. True Lashlee reduced some of the schizophrenia but the feeble high school passing game had reached the point to where opposing defenses could care less... which was killing us.

Each game I had to keep reminding myself that Gus is new at this. After all, one year as a head coach at Arkansas St. was all he brought to the table. There's a learning curve. After listening to the press conference today I'm confident he's learned a very important lesson. Are you a head coach or coordinator? From what I can tell he's grateful... gleeful to turn everything over to chip (Unicorns and rainbows). He seeing real results that he and Rhett were in no way capable of.

Finally a real passing game 50/50. With our running game, Great Qb, receivers and D, I'm ready for another shot at a NC

He has no choice.

I can tell you for sure, Gus will not be calling plays or meddling to the point that Chip is unhappy. There are very powerful people who Chip has on speed dial if this starts happening against Chip's will.

It's crazy to watch. He's overthinking things instead of building on what got him here. In all honestly, his offense doesn't need that much updating. Just pick a QB, let him play and throw the damn ball on 1st down once in awhile. Don't need all this FB single wing horseshite

Well I hope that isn't true. Either fire Gus or let him run the team as he sees fit

Head coaches are involved in the overall game, offense, defense and special teams. Rhett was no where near ready to be an OC when he first got to Auburn. When we had a good QB (Nick Marshall), we were able to hide that. Chip has Gus' respect and I think we are going to have an amazing offense.

Funny enough...Gus was 100% on board with that. He has no problem with it....he will be involved in gameplans, of course (as any HC will) but he's made promises that he won't be involved in play calling aside from telling CL things he's possibly seeing out there that could help (as any good HC would).

I agree in theory - but I think Gus has made assurances to the PTB that he will not meddle. If he does, then he basically lied to his employer.

Fair enough. I just don't trust our "powerful people" considering our past
