Somebody can confirm this but I recall that Harbison was not our first choice. The job was offered to somebody else first and Cheese was a late hire. What do you guys recall?
Nope. Cheese was hired two days after Ellis. EJ definitely wanted him here, they had worked together twice before and are good friends

the real question is whether Gus has what it takes to fire someone.

When Gus was hired didn't he fire everyone but Aubie and the PA announcer?

I trust Gus on this. We don't have the facts no matter whose second cousin told someone who knew someone etc.
If you weren't there,. you don't know.
The team has enough issues without the fans acting like old lady beauty shop gossips

If there is a problem with cheese he needs to go. Right after the players involved go first so everyone knows you don't frick with the coaches

And Scott Fountain. Promoted him to on three field coach, and our special teams have regressed

I couldn't agree more.
a. players can never frick with a coach in that type of manner if this is true. If they do anything towards a coach like this they should be gone before the end of the day and I would think that even the school would tell them to hit the road being that swinging at a faculty member would warrant expulsion.
b. if the coach is truly an issue that the kids can't deal with, he should be gone too. a good staff works together on all levels of the team.

Tangent question, would you rather Gus cut problem players or rehabilitate them?
What makes a stronger team? What is better for attracting recruits?
Personal perspective, I work at a place where we are highly compensated and if you screw up you can be fired and justifiably so, however, they see the value in fixing you. As long as you don't lie. The environment between us and our employer is stronger and a better dynamic especially given what is at stake for us personally. Imho for a football team, I see the value in players knowing the punishment will be harsh but you won't be exciled unless you lie.

I don't have a problem with rehabbing players but something as undermining as allowing a player to swing at a coach and stay around suspended is just awful on every level.
Imagine if one of your co-workers punched at your boss and was allowed to hang around with a few days off without pay and then comes back. What kind of attitude would that employee have at that point, then you have other employees that see it and resent the guy who punched at him for getting away with it, then you have the issue of where do you draw the line.

That to me would be a case by case basis depending on the situation, the player and the coach. Not to sound cliche. But I wouldn't make it an automatic removal from the team.
Mix two hot heads and a violent game and it might occasionally get interesting. I would punish. Not automatically kick off.

I want to trust Gus on this, but a combination of this and the crap that was going on with Dyer makes me nervous. Pretty well documented the coaches knew the Dyer shite show and yet Gus let him come to ASU.

Ellis said the players and coaches supported the plan for JW's return.

Nobody wants it not to have happened any more than me. These guys all had the same info with way too many details to be 'sewing circle' gossip. Well then, I suppose nobody cares to hear about the investigation into the AAD (Tim Jackson) and his shenanigans either? I think it's out there now anyway. Been hearing from my 'TUF' guy this was a possibility.
