We sit next to several former players from different periods of AU football and their families. After he came in on D we of course all were a bit surprised. In fact they were upset. Was told that it is an issue with some SR's/Staff as well, in that it is their opinion he should have been gone, period. JW swung on Cheese and threatened him after it was broken up. This has happened more than once before with JW as well. They also seemed to agree that this is a big reason for the weekly regression on D since pre KSU, both because it has caused division within the team and the issues in the secondary.

I know none of this is really new info, but it showed me what I feared is true. Gus/Cheese/JW did meet last week in an attempt to smooth things over. Did it help? IDK, JW did get to play, but at what cost?

I have feared this from the beginning. For whatever reason Gus seems to have chosen a punishment that undermines the coach. That is never a good thing. Even at times when the coach may be wrong himself. From what we heard concerning JW and the incident in question and the reference to that fact it wasn't the first time I wonder if the prudent decision would have been walking papers.

I'm not even going to post this anywhere else. As this is the only board able to handle such info w/o it turning into name calling and worse.

We were also trying to decide what Duke does now; Draft, or another year? Who would draft him high while he is hurt? Does he Rehab and come back?

any player that swings at a coach shouldn't even get to defend his actions before he is sent packing. Verbal disagreement is one thing but taking a swing at a coach is completely different. Coaches are in an authority position and should never be undermined by allowing someone to do that to them and stay around.

I think that sounds like guys making excuses. JW was suspended from the team indefinitely. He wasn't allowed in the facility. The D started regressing from there. Our tackling sucks. That hurts us. We have one CB I could throw on all day. That hurts us. The middle of the field is open all day on us. That hurts us.

You mean the #6 guy that looks like he was on dancing with the stars all night twirling around?

If it really happened like you said, I would be very disappointed in Gus and Auburn for not sending him packing for ever.

I never believe these things but would be disappointed if it went down that way and he is allowed back on the team

Yep. That's who I mean.

We just aren't good on D. There are a lot of holes in that D. Ellis seems like a good guy, but I have seen all of his D that I can stomach.

Could be true. But we also heard this year that Jay was holding back on building improvements, then a month later it was announced we were expanding. Something happened, but Cheese also has a rep for pissing players off, and he hasn't had recent success on great D backfields. I'll have to side with Gus on this one.

Well based on Harbisons units play, we need a new DB coach any damn way.

Somebody can confirm this but I recall that Harbison was not our first choice. The job was offered to somebody else first and Cheese was a late hire. What do you guys recall?

I heard the very same thing yesterday at the game. I was told the secondary can't stand cheese and don't want to play for him. I just hope it all can be smoothed over for the rest of the season.

I trust Gus on this. We don't have the facts no matter whose second cousin told someone who knew someone etc.
If you weren't there,. you don't know.
The team has enough issues without the fans acting like old lady beauty shop gossips
