The University of Maryland fired its head football coach Wednesday night just one day after his reinstatement by the board of regents caused a massive backlash on campus and across the state.

Coach DJ Durkin had been on administrative leave since August in the aftermath of a football player's death. An independent investigation concluded that Durkin was not responsible for Jordan McNair's death,

I don't think any serious person blames Durkin for McNair's death. He's just a hardass style coach, so the optics kind of made a departure inevitable in today's cultural climate.

I have no issue at all ignoring the "noise" around this hire. Just pretend like you don't hear it and you'll get used to it quickly.

It's basically all based on the one ESPN piece that all the twitter journalist bros ate up. Durkin probably isn't even in the top 20% of CFB hardasses but it made for some interesting revisionist history after a player died (that he had ZERO to do with)

The whole article was one giant eyeroll.

Pat Dye, Spurrier, Fulmer, and the Bear have probably done a million things worse

In other words, if anybody who has ever played for Muschamp had died due to a poor medical team, our cultural climate would have blamed Muschamp.

1983.. Went on to win the NC (IMHO)LINK

FYI, Bo was on the team.

On that hot afternoon in August 1983, no one at Auburn was talking about championships or even the approaching season-opener against Southern Mississippi.

Coaches and players wept together, trying to console one another and deal with overwhelming grief. Fullback Greg Pratt had collapsed after making the required time in running tests. He died a short time later.....

"To be honest, as far as I'm concerned, we did win the national championship," Whitt says. "It wasn't awarded to us, but based on the standards and the way the national championship has been won before then and since then, there's no doubt our football team was the best in the country.

On this note, can anyone explain why football return specialists across all levels of football have started fair catching inside the 10 yard line?

Yep, Bama coach does it and it’s “coaching rehab”

Auburn coach does it and it’s a “scumbag hiring a scumbag - troubling culture on the Plains”

Didn’t Saban get accused of walking over or pass by a Dolphin on the ground with health issues?

You're right, I couldn't remember if it was my dad's freshman or Sophomore year that it happened.

If half these people realized how much "shady" stuff goes on at every big program they'd turn inside out.

So Saban was interested in Durkin, he supposedly turned down Mizzou. Good enough for Jimbo and Kiffin.

Yeah I like the hire

People will question it this year because we’re still a ways away depth wise but Durkin knows what he’s doing we just need the jimmys and joes now

A player convulsing on the ground. No biggie, Saban just stepped over him when he got In his way.
