From StatTiger

quote:

For the second week in a row, Auburn struggled to apply pressure on the opposing quarterback without blitzing. The defense did finish with four sacks and five additional pressures but gave up too many big plays. Of the 326-yards surrendered against the Red Wolves, 56 percent came on four pass plays. Minus the four big pass plays allowed, Auburn gave up 2.4 yards per play during the remaining 60 snaps defended. Johnathan Ford led the defense with ten stops on the night, and Auburn had eight tackles for loss compared to the five surrendered on offense.

Defense overall is still playing well.

Last week I wasn't surprised about the lack of sacks/pressure since we were playing more to contain Watson.

Carl Lawson finally recorded his first sack in the 3rd quarter last night. Is anyone surprised by our d line's pass rush so far?

A little. We are stopping the run well but still not getting any pressure on the QB. Especially early in the games. Most of our pressures are later in the game. Im starting to believe the Lawson hype is more hype than reality. He was great as a true freshman but he is not getting around the end very well to get pressure.

I've been really surprised Lawson hasn't gotten more push, but a lot of it has to do with opponents gameplanning for him

I have yet to see CL as a elite pass rusher. We are solid up the middle tho.

I'm not concerned. We've faced two mobile qbs who escape pressure well. Trevor Night will be the same way. We may not record a sack we just need to make him hurry throws

Yes to this. Derrick Brown had some nice plays last night. Loving his development...

No. Not at all. We had zero pass rush last season, why would it be different this season without changing much? Lawson is a disrupted, but not a playmaker. His impact is not going to show up on the stat sheet.

I do really like this year how our DL is not getting blown back in the run game. They are able to hold and allow the vastly improved LBer Corp to make plays. We have not seen this since 2010.

Travis Williams is going a great job at LB. Their play so far this season reminds me of when he played. I'm kinda passed we trotted out Frost and Cass so much last season instead of these guys.

Where was Coward most of the night? I don't remember ever seeing him around the ball while Dsvidson seemed to be everywhere last night.

This has been a huge improvement. As long as we can continue to stop the run, we will be in every game we play.

The lack of pass rush is a little concerning. Clemson wasn't really a good example since they get the ball out so quickly, but those long pass routes take a while to develop and shouldn't happen so frequently with the guys we have on the edge. That will need to improve, and I'm fairly confident that it will.

I'm not surprised. In fact, I'm seeing us not over-pursue for the first time in a while. That is a good sign. The sacks will come if we continue to play sound technique.

i think Lawson`s missed time and cumulative injuries have hurt his explosiveness,i hope i`m wrong but he may never be what we all hoped he would be, still quite an asset though. The defense improved noticeably when he returned last year

I expected a lot more pressure on the QB and surprised by what I've seen so far. I believe as a whole the defense is looking good.

LB's are playing really good sans some blown pass coverages.

Arky St and Clemson both did not run very long developing pass plays. I saw guys getting to the QB and were a step or two from getting a sack. I think more will come with some different offenses, maybe not next week though.

I think that's what Clemson fans complained about when they had Steele as DC...
