100%. After the LSU game, the team hit its stride.

ULM 58-7 - a cupcake, but we destroyed them
Ms State - 38-14 - score isn't indicative of how we manhandled them all game.
Arkansas - 56-3 - we didn't look like a top 5 team in this game?
Ole Miss - 40-29 - again, I don't think the score indicates how in control we were
Vandy - 23-16 - this is when the injury bug really set in

Going into UGA, we were a dark horse playoff contender.

I'd also add that this was when Vandy turned a corner. Vandy then put up 38 against Ole Miss and 45 against UT just a few weeks later. I literally didn't recognize half of the plays run by Vandy in the first half.

You're right. I'd forgotten that about Vandy opening the playbook.

Sitting with friends from Auburn in JHS and was totally unable to explain where this offense had come from. Auburn should have had another TD if not for Kam's hamstring (?) giving out as he broke into the clear at the end of the game too.

Sidenote: I'm still pissed that the NCAA went total bitch-mode and made all leaping plays to block FGs illegal now. That block by Cunningham at the end of AU-VU was an incredible feat of athleticism and intelligence. frick off NCAA.

I'm sorry but we should not sugar coat last year. It's was bad. Very bad.

Arkansas was beat before the game started. Our best overall game

Miss st was great in the first half, terrible in the second

Ole miss was a decent win but our defense got killed

Won LSU but was lucky. Didn't even score a TD

Texas AM? LOL

Vandy was driving at the end of the game to tie us. Vandy.

UGA - biggest cluster frick ever

Bama - defense saved us the first half but faltered in the second. Didn't even have a first down till the 3rd quarter. Never had a chance

Oklahoma? Absolutely man handles and beat the shite out of us. It was embarrassing.

I was at the game. Ole Miss was marching up and down the field all over us. We couldn't stop them until the 4th quarter. That was our best game of the year offensively. We were definitely not in control of that game until the very very end.

I'm not saying it was great. Simply responding to the part about us being on a roll and a tough team to beat middle of the season.

Bad:
1. Offensive play calling, including awful QB rotation, during Clemson game
2. UGA
3. Offensive collapse at end of season
4. A&M game

That's lazy and ignoring how well Vandy played down the stretch last season. Bad Lanier! You can relax on vacation, but I won't let you be lax in your football analysis.

It's like the fans who hate expectations don't realize that our lower ranking was partially the reason we were on the outside looking in during the 2004 undefeated season. Polls have inertia.

Edit: I think 13 is just right.

I disagree with most of your post, but you are spot on with this one. Noway we should have lost to that terrible UGA team who did not score a TD against us.

Last years team was a 9-3 team that found a way to become 8-4. We are a 9 win per season program. If we go 8-4 or 9-3, it is not much different. Bad years are 7-5 or worse and good years are 10-2 or better.

Sure they were but Auburn was supposedly a "playoff contender" and Vandy is the worst team in the SEC east. In Auburn. There is no way we should play them where they are driving to beat us. Its just a mark on us, not Vandy. Yes they played better last year but we still have more talent on the bench (recruited) than they have on the field.

You have to crush the people you are suppose to crush. Not just "We won" like someone above said. We did not play well and we certainly did not play anywhere close to our potential.

Its just a discussion about how we played last year. I am also glad we won but lets not look at stats and things to determine how we did. A lot of our stats built up again either bad SEC teams or OOC teams. Against good teams, we played like shite

LSU
Bama
UGA
OU
Clemson

Bad Tigers

Let's be real. Those D's we played against in that stretch were unbelievably bad. The O was running the football, pre KP injury in a manner that they hadn't shown an ability to run against a decent DL. Even against Vandy...we struggled a bit. That 6 game stretch was text book on how "paper tigers" are created. Look at the rushing stats prior to KP's injury against any legit D or Dline from last season and you'll see our O was pretty pedestrian. The D also fell off late season, which could be a mild concern. Though I chalk that up to being put in such bad spots late in the year.

To me the issues with the O, which meant we weren't a great team last year...just a good team. It all came down to the QB and to a lesser extent the OL. We didn't have a QB who could stretch the field or be a real threat in the run game.

*both can help an OL running the football when playing a superior DL

The second was the OL was average run blocking and worse at pass pro. I believe we average 134 yards rushing against the teams we played with a decent DL. We also had trouble picking up crucial short yardage in those games.

*Pass pro is because we don't have a legit LT who has shown himself capable of playing at this level (YET)...see previous star for running the football in Gus' scheme.

Bruh. Missouri! But if Vandy plays like that all year, it wouldn't have even been close to the worst. That's why it's important when Auburn played them.

This is true. It was a bad game for Auburn, for sure. It wasn't an embarrassment in retrospect though. Just saying "it's Vandy" is lazy and really annoying.
