Like 24 said no. He was a big special teamer and did well there until the FG blocks with A&M and UGA, though that blame is on coaching and not him. They overloaded that side 7 on 4 and didn't crush/domino block. Gus acknowledged and pledged to fix. At OT, he was just very inconsistent even in practice and could never put it all together.

Barrett move intended to be stop-gap temporary but I see it being permanent, esp w/ Hastings and Davis being gone after this year. His skills are better there than RB though I agree, yes he did flash ability and he's still fairly young. But coaches conclude he will be best used in the open field all over vs running the ball up the middle/off-tackle and limiting throws to swings.

Reason he's doing well is that he's very coachable and brain is football adaptive. Smart/logical thinker, in the college of math & sciences, on SEC Honor Roll already. Parents both Olympians so he is receptive to where best utilized and trusts Steele. Former WR make great CBs as they know route specifics well, tell-tale body movements, when the cuts are, about how long to turn head around when ball is coming off the arm. Only thing that is pretty difficult and takes time to learn is a well-coached QB using his eyes to move secondary then throwing the other way; zone responsibility and knowing when to let someone go/pickup someone and adjusting from backpedal to run support angles while shedding a jumpstart block.
But he also doesnt have bad CB habits which are sometimes hard to change esp when a very athletic kid can cover that up in college. There's also a few different man coverage techs but D-Coordinators tend to only favor one in their overall schemes; this makes Noah ideal to be coached the exact way they want to run coverage in expedited time.

Gus said he's going to rotate Cox in at #1B runningback until another runningback that can share the load with Kam and do the other RB things emerges. Said he intends to use him in pass pro and eluded to short yard situations. To date, Cox has 8car for 15yds and 1TD. Gus said he still remembers his 71yd run at 2016 A-day and added:
Who's ready for a little piroutte jig?
quote:
"He knows the path, and he's got really good instincts. In high school, they ran the single wing. They direct-snapped it to him, so he's really good with the gaps, the power, the counter and things that go off of it."

Is Hastings hurt? If so when is he expected back?

weagle,
Hastings and Stove both blew out their acls about the same time in the spring. Part of the reason for Barrett move, they may be back for the start of the season, but not sure about 100%.
How is Newkirks achilles healing. I wonder about that, it may be healed but to get the muscle/strength back in the legs would take a while I would think? Kid sure has had his academic setbacks and then that darn injury.

I agree with his open field abilities. I hate the idea of moving him out of RB compleyely though. He’s a good 3rd down option.

I know we need him at H Back and there should be better options but if you remember when he first started, he looked like he had some skills running the ball

I'm wondering if maybe they give him first crack at the wildcat role

Doubtful, but I don’t find this news disturbing in the least. He’s a senior who provides solid play and leadership that the young guys will have to compete with to earn a spot.

I find it disturbing that our RB after Kam is Whirlybird

I for one welcome our new (again) Whirlybird overlord.

He’s not, though, really. It won’t be that way by the end of fall camp.

a lot of posters on this board didn't think these two were "big" enough to carry the load 20 times a game
And if they are “big” enough in comparison to K-Mart, then coupled with Gus’ recent comment on Cox, we are freakin due for the Cox-cat/whirlybird. Let that sink in.

The Cox whirlybird is dead as Gus knows if he ran it he would open the door for scrutiny and fanbase questioning that took a long time to get rid of. CoxCat run up the gut on 3rd and 1? I could see that as he's 241lb. He's repping him out preparing for the scenario that should Kam get hurt or look bad in pass pro, he's got a guy who blocks for a living back there. 3rd and 9 (not near own endzone)? Everyone knows it's a nearly 100% passing down so having Cox in is no big deal, not 'giving away' the play. 3rd and 3? I don't see him being in the game on many of those unless the run game is on a hot streak.
Gus wants one of the other RBs to step up as a solid #2, #1B. Also is sort of a challenge to the young backs that it's there if you step up and grind. Cox is a backup if there's no separation.
