When has a redshirt freshman ever had a strong first year in the SEC? That never happens.

Last year

I sincerly hope you are not holding out hope that JJ will have a year like JFF.

I really do not konw what more yall want form NM at this point. I have been very happy with what he has given us thus far and see no reason why he cannot or will not continue to progress next year.

You mean the team's ceiling?

There's no doubt that Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, and LSU are still better than Auburn. Ole Miss has an argument of also being better. It's not like we're one of the better teams in the SEC. And we still have to beat Arkansas and Tennessee, even though I think we are the more superior team there.

FWIW, this team could maybe make a run next year and be a good team with all we return.

I understand he has only been here 8 weeks but after 4 games I expect him to be greatly improved against a below average OM secondary. If he isn't then his seat needs to be hot.

Yeah, the time that he has been in the offense doesn't dictate how well/accurate he is able to throw the ball.

While I agree he's better than anything last year, this weekend should tell us more on if AU just recruited the best athlete on a JUCO team to play QB (you know, high school offense and all).

Hopefully Marshall comes out accurate in the first half and proves me to be a fool for ever doubting him. I'd love nothing better.

I want him to play better. 13th out of 14 in the SEC qb ratings shouldn't be good enough at Auburn. Here is a link to show that I'm not pulling this out of my anus.

Nick Marshall has not been able to run the full offense, he has not demonstrated that freak athleticism which is what everyone hoped for, he consistently has missed throws, he does not make great reads and he is a fumbling machine right now.

I think and hope he will improve but right now, he has been inconsistent and everytime he takes a step forward, he stumbles back later

After 7 weeks, I do not expect him to be able to.

Thats on the ppl expecting more based on youtube highlights, not on him.

Dont even know what that means.

Nobody is saying that are satisfied with that. NM is also 10th in the league in competion %.

The ppl that want to put a time line on NM for the next best thing are like the UGA ppl that want Richt fired. Who are you gonna get today that will produce more than what we currently have? It is way too early for this.

No you're not pulling it out of your arse, but you do want Frazier as QB so I really can't take what you say seriously.

I expect a big game from him this week. 2 weeks to prepare and work with the wr's. We get a healthy Corey Grant back and 2 weeks for Gus to prepare. I will be disappoint if we don't score 30+ and win.

I agree completely with this. Ole Miss does not have top tier DBs either.

If Nick Marshall does not show improvement over two weeks prep, lower tier SEC defensive backfield and having all his weapons back, the question of is he the guy shouldn't be off the table

What if Nick hasn't improved to your expectations and Auburn is 5-1 after two weeks. Do you sit him?

My opinion there is only one option besides Nick Marshall and that is JJ. Wallace and Tuberville are not even close.. Frazier?

I view this as a rebuilding year so when I say "Is he the guy" I mean that in the same way we viewed Barrett Trotter (which bit us in the arse)

He may be the guy to finish our season but if JJ really pushed him as a true frosh, I don't believe Marshall should be handed the keys next year just because he played this year

Also, I have posted a lot on this board that I am a huge proponent of the redshirt year. With the exception of RBs and sometimes WRs, there is almost never a case (freak FR like Monty) in my opinion where a true freshman should burn his RS unless your depth is atrocious. The benefits of having in season workouts (which you can't go as hard due to playing), a year to adjust to college lifestyle and to practice and grasp the schemes is huge.

With that said, there is almost no case I believe JJ should burn his redshirt. Unless Nick Marshall shits the bed, I do not believe he should be benched. I am talking about next year, should Marshall be the clearcut favorite going into the spring or will it be a real competition

Fair enough. I don't doubt JJ has a good opportunity to take away the top spot next year. It will be refreshing to have a JJ, White and nick fighting for QB.

Do some of y'all think JJ was not given a fair shot in August?

I cannot see where we would bench a QB that got us to a bowl game and has full year in the SEC for a QB that he already beat out once and has never taken a snap in college.

Which is more of a reason why he should be able to hit a wide open receiver. Its not like he has been spending his time on other things.

I like Nick. I think he was the correct choice. But its time for him to get some accuracy and be a better QB. Other than the big over throws and the stupid INT in the LSU game, I have been satisfied.

But, its time to improve.

I think the fact JJ being freshman and going toe to toe with Nick suggests JJ's potential has a much higher ceiling than Nick. It is quite possible that after a year of learning Gus's offense, working out, etc. JJ could very well take the starting job from NM. Regardless if Nick takes AU to a bowl. It certainly is plausible and not impossible to think could happen.

My point is that I am glad there is that kind of talent at Q B and add in White next year, and the competition at that position is a very good thing.

I believe OM is better than last year, but I believe we are MUCH better than last year. The final score was not indicative of how we played in the game.

I don't know what to think of Wallace. He runs the read very well, but is not mobile. He was throwing high to his receivers in the Bama game - probably bc OM's receivers on avg had a few inches on Bama's DBs.

Has OM played anyone with a really strong running game? Vandy's wasn't since Stacey isn't there anymore. I can't imagine SE Missouri's is that good. I know nothing about Texas. And Bama's hasn't been as good this year as they were in recent years. Also, OM hasn't played a team with a mobile QB like NM. I know Marshall hasn't shown a lot, but maybe we'll see some QB designed runs.

Not really sure what to make. Glad this game is in JHS.

That is a good point. OM's defense has face all pocket passers.

RN has not had to read a QB and determine to take the QB or the RB yet. That could be a big advantage for us, even against the top recruit from last years class.
