Maybe I'm just enamored but i feel like you guys are underestimating Davion Mitchell. Imo, he is very underrated by the services. As dynamic as he is with the ball in his hands, his best attribute might be his on the ball defense. I really, really think he's going to be a stud for us.

Just to add to my above post, although I really like Jared Harper, Davion Mitchell is and will be a better PG. No doubt about it and I feel we're upgrading. But with upgrading, we're sacrificing experience.

I love Mitchell and what he brings, but he is closer to a combo guard than a true PG.
Why do you think that? He is high-flying and scores/dishes a lot as a PG. He is 6'1, with a +/- 40 vertical. He is explosive with the ball and can easily create shots for others. If Doc Robinson and Chris Porter had a basketball baby.. his name would be Davion Mitchell. Doc's handles, with Porter's explosiveness.

He started his career as a SG and according to most scouting reports his "PG skills" are still in the early stages of development.
I love him long term, but just pointing out that next year as a true FR he probably won't be ready to be a true point

I don't think CBP wants a true pg. Mitchell can get to the rim and create or finish. Guy I trust over on ITAT has seen him play numerous times and he says if he would have wanted to play in more of the elite camp showcases he could have easily been a top 30ish 5 star. He can get a little flashy sometimes and that makes him a little loose with his handles. He also needs to be more consistent from deep but he has all the tools and skills needed to be a high level SEC PG. I haven't seen him play personally so I won't speculate on if he starts at some point next year or not but I certainly won't rule the possibility out.

We don't need a True PG for our system. We want to be able to reach those high assist numbers as a team. Bruce wants everyone on the team capable of dishing out the right pass for the assist.
However, we do need someone capable of bringing the ball up and getting the offense started.
Next year will be a nice surprise for some people. A lot of returning talent. Adding some great pieces to them and they all gained tons of experience this year.
Wiley came in late and will benefit from a full offseason in the program.
We have tons of potential. Next season should be BIG for Basketball and Football.

I'm hoping we start scheduling some better midmajor home/home series similar to our Xavier h/h going forward
Places like the following all have solid hoops recruiting + would likely be intetested
-St Mary's - NoCal + usually top 25 team
-Cincinnati - Cincy + usually top 25 team
-SMU - Dallas + improving program

As long as Mitchell doesn't yak up 40 foot 3s with the game on the line then he's an upgrade from Harper. Need to get his team focused on crashing boards this offseason.

I'd settle for our PG's being able to beat the press and make it up court when we are up 2 with 20 seconds left in the game. Bringing the ball up court and getting to shoot free throws makes for better outcomes than turning it over under their basket.

I like Harper but he made questionable decisions. Some games he balled out and some games he had quite a few WTF moments. I'll chalk it up to being a true FR but I still think Mitchell will be starting halfway into the season next year.

Harper did a poor job of facilitating the offense and getting others involved. With his size and speed he should be attacking and dishing. Someone even pointed out that Ronnie Johnson had better assist numbers that Harper in a lot less minutes played.
Harper is alright to come of the bench and let your pg get a nice breather that's about it.
And yes, we're looking at bringing in a combo guard and a big from the grad transfer circuit.

Harper's assist numbers improved over the last 3 games, because he had 6 vs UGA + 10 in two games vs Mizz
RoJo does have a higher Assist rate (Assists / Teammate made FG) than Harper still at 28.5% to 23% , for context Dunans = 19% Heron = 9%

The entire team could benefit from crisper ball movement and looking to get other guys scoring opportunities.
We need a finisher around the rim. I think that answers some assist questions. Wiley can be that guy, but he's got to be more sure with his hands.

A few people have used it but never seemed to catch on. Kind of surprising but probably because he wasn't a focal point

Someone please tell me that the rumors of Heron thinking about transferring are a joke
Posted on 4/1/17 at 3:30 pm to TheSandman
Seems to fit the pattern lately, KD, Corey, Jang now Herron all gone..
Posted on 4/1/17 at 3:36 pm to TheSandman
Marcello said they there's nothing to it
Posted on 4/1/17 at 3:47 pm to TheSandman
Only one guy who does not seem to have real connections to AU or Heron claimed "Heron is thinking about it"
Only other person of note to report it cited that guy
