AU still real confident Wiley will enroll just hasn't happened yet. Unclear whether or not he will play against BC even if he does get cleared

When would something like this get announced? I know after it is official, but when could that be?

As early as Friday. Depends on his schools grade turnaround + NCAA clearninghouse (assuming he is able to pull it off)

NCAA Clearinghouse is the biggest unknown, considering there aren't a ton of people getting cleared in December, you'd think it shouldn't be too bad though

TIFWIW: I have a high level of confidence that Wiley will play Monday. I know I will be watching.

Based on anything factual?

I believe he could be eligible by Monday. Whether or not he travels AND plays this quickly seems like a stretch

I've heard from two places that it could be the early part of the break if things go without a hitch. I'm not holding my breath for anything before Christmas though.

So can we warm up the Its Happening GIF? I mean this is the next shoe I have been waiting to drop with our Athletics other than Lashlee hitting the road. Also , the hiring or Art "No means No" Briles.

This negabarner waited and waited and waited for it to happen with Purifoy last year. I'm not getting my hopes up until I see him on the court.

Purifoy has been with the team for a year and still doesn't seem to know how to run the sets. I doubt Wiley could do anything without any practice time. He will need at least a few practices to be able to run a limited set. Even then he won't be able to get a ton of minutes. Expecting Wiley to provide anything more than depth for a while is a bit unrealistic imo.

I think he can get up to speed pretty quickly... we're not needing him to carry really any of the scoring load. We need defense and rebounding. Adjusting to his teammates will still take time... but he can be an asset.

He will be providing height on defense at the very least.

Defense still takes time to adjust to your teammates/ scheme though... knowing when to switch and rotate... and we like to press at times, so knowing where to be and what the goal of the press is (who to trap, what to defend against, etc.)

That was the frustrating part about Reed. All his tall arse had to do to be decent on defense was stick both of his hands in the air.

Young players usually aren't satisfied affecting shots and avoiding fouls rather than going for the shot block every time (see Reed, Spencer, etc.).

Wiley has played some high level prep ball, but I still expect an adjustment period for a big moving from the hs game to college.

I hope he can make an immediate impact, but I think expectations expressed here seem too high.

He will when we go up against TAMU's Davis or UGA's Mathis. We won't get Purdue'd as we try to defend the paint by doubling

Agreed. I see him as a ~15min/game kid who helps a ton with rebounding

I think part of that is from us so rarely (never) getting 5*s and not knowing what to expect. We also see Kentucky and what they do every year, so that is our general mark for comparison of what a 5* can do as a freshmen. Does anyone remember how Pearl handled Stokes or any other players who did this kind of thing at Tenn?

Seems like I remember Reed's height affecting Xavier late in the game to score us a win. It was also his first game with the team. If we can get that out of Wiley, we will be good.
