Same thing happened to my brother when he was the snapper. He is barely recognizable in his Soph and Junior pics.

Not that this is a surprise of anything but it's been confirmed by AU players at Senior Bowl that Carlton Davis decided to sit out bowl game

Teammates: Carlton Davis made decision to sit out Peach Bowl (AL.com)
quote:

"As first I got onto him." Matthews said. "I was like, 'hey man, what's up? I need you. You've been my dawg the last three years and you're going to leave me hanging like that?' He explained to me a few things. That's his decision. I got to respect it. He's a first-round talent, so you know, that's on him."

"We're built different," Matthews said. "If it was me, I would've still played because it was my last game with my boys. Maybe, give or take, you never know how somebody's feeling, though. You don't know how his body was feeling."

Yep. I defended Davis when reports of him leaving came out because they said he was sick. I understand the reasoning behind sitting out and that it's a business decision, but at least have the guts to admit it and don't say you're bailing early because you're sick.

I'm looking forward to Carlton Davis and Daniel Carlson being off our roster for the simple fact that I always confuse the two in reading.

Exactly, I get that he would have caught heat for the decision, but sometimes that's just what you have to do. That being said, those kids don't owe us a damn thing, so whatever. I hope he gets drafted high and does the school proud in the NFL. Major respect to Tray and his attitude towards the whole thing.

Golson also played in the Shrine Bowl last weekend and had a solid game. Nothing overly impressive, but they played him at RG and he held his own.

Tray Matthews was the most under appreciated played on the team to me. Him and Deshaun Davis were the leaders of the defense imo.

I don't have a link, but apparently Tre Williams had a huge hit at Senior Bowl practice. I think he's undervalued in the draft right now and someone is going to get a mid/late round steal. No way are there 20+ better OLB's than him.

I'm with you, but it is possible Davis may have been sick, and it may have cemented the decision to sit out.

I don't like that players sit out, but I'll never criticize someone who doesn't want to risk $millions over a game with no championship implications

I honestly never saw it.

I mean, I saw flashes on occasion, but mostly average-to-good was my impression of his Auburn career.

His personal story is a much bigger positive to me than his playing career.

I give props to Gus actually for leaving the decision to Carlton, and not throwing him under the bus (maybe pun) by declaring it.

I wasn't necessarily talking about his play, more so his leadership and always making sure other people were in the right spot. During the season when a big play or a score happened he almost always was the first one talking to the DB's to correct/keep them calm. I think we're going to miss him a lot more than most realize. If he was faster I think he would be one the the better safety's in the draft this year. I hope an NFL team gives him a shot at LB similar to Mark Barron.

They don’t owe us a damn thing but they owe their teammates suiting up together one last time. I understand leaving early, and support it. But finish the season you started. Best of luck to him though. Definitely respect Tray’s mindset.

Man I love watching Tre play when he is healthy. What could have been with his career if he was able to stay healthy the whole time.

The Georgia Southern game to start the season showed what he could do when fully healthy. Unfortunately not sure he was ever that after the game. Has a chance to have a good NFL career if he can stay on the field

This could be a big draft class for AU. KJ, Davis, Smith & Holland are probably all locks to be drafted. Then you got Carlson, Golson, Matthews, Roberts, Williams & James who could all sneak in as well. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out

James has about as much chance of being drafted as I do.

He was pretty bad in the last 2 games.

As I've said a few times...to me, our best OL was in the UGA game with Tega at LT and Golson at RT.
