KN has article on 5* LB Palaie Gaoteote who recently committed to USC. He still might take official visits and if he does the two schools he named as possibilities are Ohio State and Auburn. Apparently he really enjoys talking to Travis Williams and likes how we play defense. As of now though it would probably take a lot to flip him still landing an official visit never hurts

Auburn First to Step Up and Offer 2019 CB Jalen Alexander (Rivals)
quote:

Auburn became the first school to offer Jalen Alexander a scholarship Friday afternoon. The 5-foot-11, 160 pound cornerback out of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson is only a sophomore and the Tigers surprised him with the news.

Alexander had not heard much from Auburn until he got on the phone with Travis Williams.

"I was told to call coach Williams, so I gave him a call, we talked for about 30 minutes and he gave me the news about the offer," said Alexander. "He talked to me about academics, my 3.3 GPA and how he loves my ability to cover, my speed to the ball and my film."

The Tigers will likely start an offer spree for Alexander. South Carolina could be next to pull the trigger. The Gamecocks like him a lot. Alabama, Clemson, Colorado and Ohio State are others showing the talented 2019 defensive back early attention.

Auburn stepped up first before anyone else and it did surprise Alexander, but he knew he was on their radar. He has been there twice already and he is excited about the offer.

"I have visited Auburn a couple of times, but both visits were last year," said Alexander. "I have gotten to see Auburn and it is a great school and I think it is a school that should be high on any athlete's list.

"I like how Auburn is big on academics, I like how tough their defense plays and I know they have a lot of players in the NFL right now, so I like that too.

"I have always liked Auburn a lot, so I am very blessed that they have offered me. It is a big school, so it feels great to have this offer."

This offer is a big one for Alexander for multiple reasons. It is his first offer, it is an offer from a big-time SEC school and he knows this is just the beginning. He has worked hard for this moment and this is only going to push him to work harder.

"It does feel great to have my first offer, but it is really just like adding fuel to the tank to allow me to grind harder for the next one," said Alexander.

RIVALS REACTION: Auburn was not the school Alexander thought was close to offering him, it was another Tigers — Clemson. His locker is full of mail from Clemson and he thinks they could be close to offering. His former head coach, Mickey Conn now coaches at Clemson and the Tigers signed Grayson's quarterback, Chase Brice this past class. South Carolina could offer as early as Monday Rivals is hearing, so keep an eye on the Gamecocks. This is very early in the recruiting process for Alexander and he will add many more offers.

Six schools are standing out to the top defensive prospect in Alabama and Scout 4-star CB Jalyn Armour-Davis (Scout)
quote:

Four-star cornerback prospect Jalyn Armour-Davis has held offers from coast-to-coast for some time, but on Tuesday he made his first cut-down to a half-dozen. When may he decide between them?

A longtime Scout four-star prospect and one who has played a major role with Yellowhammer State power Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's Episcopal over the last three-plus seasons, Jalyn Armour-Davis has been a known commodity by prep fans and college football coaches for some time.

The four-star cornerback, currently tabbed as the top defensive prospect in Alabama, has collected well over a dozen scholarship offers from the Atlantic to the Pacific in the process, but he has been working towards cutting down the growing list for some time.

Armour-Davis went public with the move on Tuesday, revealing Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Georgia, Florida and USC as his top six schools under consideration.

The lone in-state program on the list, Auburn, has hosted Armour-Davis more than any other program and he tells Scout he will be back on the Plains for another unofficial visit Tuesday. His latest trips include Auburn and Florida State and several others in the top grouping could host him before a verbal commitment is to be made.

As for a timetable on the potential pledge, the rising-senior says he may come to a decision "pretty soon" although there is no scheduled date to go public with the announcement.

Would be awesome to get him on board early

Class of 2018 Rivals250 rankings update: Biggest movers (Rivals)
quote:

4* OT John Campbell

Movement: N/A

Analyst’s take: “Campbell names no favorite in the process. His track speed makes him special when combined with his solid size.” - Cassidy

quote:

4* S Gurvan Hall

Movement: N/A

Analyst’s take: “Hall is thought to be high on Miami but is yet to rule any school out. He needs to add a bit of muscle, but he’s a long, rangy defensive back that closes incredibly well.” - Cassidy

quote:

4* WR Marquez Ezzard

Movement: N/A

Analyst’s take: "Ezzard was one of the top performers at the annual Rising Seniors event, with that showing coming on the heels of an impressive junior season he warranted a bump up. He's a strong, physical wide receiver with impressive speed and can contribute in the return game as well. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Oregon are in the mix to land his commitment." - Wommack

quote:

4* WR Jacob Copeland

Movement: N/A

Analyst’s take: “Copeland has a long list of offers, including ones from Alabama, Florida, Miami and Michigan. Copeland’s length and burst make him intriguing. He’s capable of stretching the field on the outside and breaking tackles if need be.” - Cassidy

KN has VIP update on 4* CB Jalyn Armour-Davis. He went to practice today which is 2nd visit to AU this year (attended first junior day). Released his top 6 today which included AU. Tigers have made him a big time priority. Travis Williams is his area recruiter but this trip would spend more time with Greg Brown and watch DBs practice

Keith also has update on 4* ATH Kearis Jackson who visited this past weekend. Apparently visit exceeded his expectations and he rated it a 10. Made trip with parents and grandparents. Really enjoyed the laid back environment. Got to spend a lot of time with Kodi Burns and also Gus Malzahn. Plans to make a return trip later this spring to see a practice

Didn't know much about this kid so checked out his highlights. Kid is a beast would love to take him away from UGA

Top-10 offensive tackle William Barnes calls Auburn ‘different,’ praises Herb Hand (SECCountry)
quote:

His decision isn’t close. Barnes isn’t married to the idea of a blowout Signing Day ceremony, but that timeframe is what he’s shooting for to allow plenty of time to do his recruiting homework. He’s already narrowing in on some of his favorites. Barnes names Auburn, Florida, North Carolina and Florida State, though that’s an unofficial, flexible list of “top schools.”

“It’s not my top 5. I’m still enjoying the recruiting process. I’ve got a lot of time to check those schools out and see what the best fit for me is,” Barnes said. “But those good SEC and ACC schools are what I’m looking at most. Mostly Florida, North Carolina and Auburn.”

The popular opinion is that Barnes will end up at Florida because of the in-state pull.

Barnes admitted that the Florida-based pressure is something he has to deal with occasionally, but it’s “definitely not” something that will affect his decision. That’s not to downplay the Gators’ chances with Barnes. Of his nine Crystal Ball selections, eight go in Florida’s favor, though as Barnes mentioned, he’s nowhere near a final decision.

Auburn finds itself in as good of position it can be in this early.

“The way it feels out there is different. When I’m on the Auburn campus, it just feels like I’m in college. The town, the people are always great. It’s just a great place to be in,” Barnes said. “And definitely Coach (Herb) Hand. I talk to him a lot. We’ve been talking recently.”

Barnes’ options aren’t done building. The offensive tackle — he wants to play tackle, but said he can play “anywhere on the line” — has picked up offers from Oregon and Michigan in the last week. Before that, the top-70 prospect had offers from Alabama, Georgia, UCLA, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Florida State, North Carolina, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Miami and several others.

He’s been on Auburn’s campus. Now that it’s starting to reach decision time, Barnes plans to return soon.

“I plan on coming up there for a spring practice,” Barnes said.

quote:

Auburn is in good shape, but based on a conversation with someone close to Armour-Davis, it’s likely Florida State is the team to beat right now. Armour-Davis attended Florida State’s junior day earlier this month and was blown away by his experience in Tallahassee.

That visit helped him decide it was time to pick a top list of schools. His decision won’t be too far off either.

Armour-Davis told SEC Country that he will make his choice “hopefully as it comes closer to summer.”

Hopefully that source sucks

AL.com All-Access: State's top prospects trending away from Alabama early? (AL.com)
quote:

St. Paul's four-star defensive back Jalyn Armour-Davis wasn't kidding when he recently said one of Alabama or Auburn might not make his top group.

The 6-foot-1, 174-pound cornerback released his top six on Tuesday. Auburn was in it, along with USC, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Florida State.

He says he will commit "soon."

Armour-Davis is the state's No. 2 prospect, right behind Justyn Ross, a 6-foot-5 receiver from Central-Phenix City.

Ross recently went to Alabama's Junior Day, but six of seven 247Sports expert predictions have Ross choosing Auburn, where he also recently spent time. (Side note: most were early picks and my pick was the only one that still has Alabama). It bears noting that many thought Ross' teammate Markail Benton was an Auburn lock at this time last year.

State's No. 3 prospect Jack West, a quarterback from Saraland, is committed to Stanford. Paul Bryant receiver Seth Williams, the No. 4 prospect, would have chosen Florida State had he stuck with his original commitment timetable. State's No. 5 prospect Tank Jenkins, an offensive guard from Park Crossing, doesn't have an Alabama offer.

These are all from the 247Sports composite. No. 6 prospect Myles Mason from Pleasant Grove is thought to be an Alabama lean.

Alabama will once again since one of the nation's top classes and maybe even the best class again, but early on, this isn't looking like the year where it cleans up at the top.

Last year, Alabama signed five of the top seven. In 2016, it was four of the top five. It was four of the top six in 2015, but Auburn signed the next three best.

There is still lots of time left and perhaps a 'Bama bump to be awarded. LaBryan Ray was a three-star at this time last year, but no one's disputing that he finished the year as the No. 1 player.

Rankings will re-shuffle. In my opinion, Jackson-Olin's Coynis Miller should be higher. He has a teammate signed with Auburn but grew up an Alabama fan. Mobile Christian's Andres Fox has a growing offer sheet from national powers but is still listed as a three-star. Both of these guys could end up at Alabama. Or Auburn.

AU has a shot for the first time since 2011 at signing more top 10 AL guys than Bama but it's so early I wouldn't get too excited about it yet. I fully expect Andres Fox to commit to Bama sometime this summer and get a ridiculous bump. Also it's close battles for Justyn Ross and Coynis Miller. But if AU can get Ross, Armour-Davis, Jenkins, Martin, Miller & Watson that would be 6 of the top 10. It's doable but far from a lock

I think you may be on to something..

But if you really look at it deeper, there is a hidden meaning. He obviously enjoyed the FSU visit, which is fresh RIGHT NOW, but I still like where we're at in the long run when it counts.

Five Southeast prospects under the rankings microscope (Rivals)
quote:

DE Andres Fox

Fox had a big junior season and his size and athleticism have put him on the radar of many college programs. He can project as a rush end or an outside linebacker on the next level and he has plenty of big offers to evaluate. He visited Alabama and Georgia over the weekend, Auburn offered him early and Florida State is a school he plans to visit soon. - Simmons

quote:

ATH Gerry Bohanon

There are not many athletes that are more intriguing than Bohanan. What is he on the next level? Schools are starting to really believe he can be a quarterback with his big arm, ability to run and size. Alabama was first to offer in January and Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee are some of the many that have offered since. No favorites have emerged yet, but Alabama and Arkansas are two he'd like to visit soon. - Simmons

quote:

S Joseph Foucha

Foucha is ranked as a three-star, but he has an offer list that is more impressive than some Rivals250 prospects. He's seen his recruitment explode in recent weeks with Alabama, Oklahoma and others joining his list. Foucha will head into camp season looking to vault himself into the discussion for the nation's best safety and will have ample opportunities to do so, starting the with Rivals 3-Stripe Camp in New Orleans on March 12. - Wommack
