You are acting as if UGA fired Richt to get Smart. Those were two separate decisions

They made the decision that Richt had to go. Hiring Smart just happened to be the best guy they could find after Richt had left

Yea, I think uga got tired of winning 9-11 games a season but never getting over the hump to play for more. Pretty understandable if you ask me.

Personally, I always thought Kirby was going to stay at bama until he got fired or took one of two HC jobs:
1.) UGA
2.) bama
He played at uga, has had a very succesful career under one of the (if not the) most succesful coaches ever, and brings a lot of name recognition and the ability to sell that he knows how to put guys in the league.

I hope he fails miserably, but it makes sense all around

Also, why is this being discussed this in the 2017 recruiting thread? I thought maybe we had gotten another NLI or something

Edit: Personally, I think the guy is scum. A friend of a friend was a grad assistant for him, and when Kirby took the uga job the guy asked for a reference letter so he could apply for other jobs. Kirby never responded to him, so now the guy is up in Minnesota coaching at a D3 school.

Not true, they fired to Richt to hire Smart.

So Garner said the following on Truesdall

quote:

We're going to try to trim him down to about 300 or 310, but he's a kid that's a big, powerful, explosive, quick-twitch guy

Mentioned that he was running in the 4.8 range at camps his JR year at 310lb. Once you normalize from Auburn 40 clocks to real 40 times, a 5.1 for a JR 300+ lineman is pretty legit

He is one I could see having some trouble trimming down below 310 just by how he is built. I think in the 310-315 range would be perfect for him (In my expert uneducated opinion.)

If they do a good job w diet plan and workouts it shouldn't be a problem.

He looks like he is in great shape for someone that is 330, but he isn't shredded. Not hard to imagine he has 5-10% of excess body fat he could stand to lose.

Sure, I just meant since he is as big as he is with what appears to be pretty good weight, he could lose that 5-10% and with the muscle gain, still be in the 310-315 range. I just mean that with his build, he may not need to go down below that to get rid of the bad weight.

I doubt he'll really be expected to contribute this year. If he redshirts, he and the coaches will have plenty of time to work with his weight and see what happens.

If we want him to be an every down lineman, it may take awhile but he easily (in terms of body fat to cut) could get down to 300 even with the standard S&C/PED gains of higher level ball.

He looks in better shape at 330 than most, but don't think he is in "good shape."

Got to imagine with how we've rotated DTs, he will RS. We have enough 1-2nd down guys, we also have some situational 3rd down options as well

Standard DTs
Dontavius Russell
Derrick Brown
Antwuan Jackson
Andrew Williams

Run stuffing DTs
Jauntavius Johnson

3rd down move inside options

Byron Cowart
Marlon Davidson
Nick Coe

And which non-existent DE will we have rushing the passer on 3rd down?

Parents were track stars I believe. He is a very athletic kid.

ETA: I honestly see him as a cross between Coates and Terrell Zachary. Not quite the same top end speed of Coates, but a cross between those would be a good physical comparison IMO. Still raw though as a receiver.

Both of his parents were Olympians (momma a bronze medalist) and college track All-Americans.

I was wondering why his mom wasn't at work today. Now I know.

We frequently rotate one DE inside on passing downs, not both. So pair one of our two DEs with

Jeff Holland
Paul James III

And added to roster

TD Moultry
Markaviest Bryant
