Fullback rankings mean dick all to me. I can guarantee you that none of these sites are spending dozens of hours sifting through fullback highlight reels. Most highschools barely even utilize fullbacks, therefore the best fullback in the country is probably some kid you've never heard of that is playing LB or some other position, which is why so many walk-ons end up being elite fullbacks in college. Jay Prosch: ranked by pretty much no one (247 had him 19th among fullbacks LOL).

FBs don't get the ranking love like other positions which is understandable. The kid is already the size of Prosch and runs. 4.5 40. Nothing against this TE that all the sudden earned an AU scholarship in the 11th hour

I watched the kids film 2 star or not he's basically the same player as Lassiter except taller and can run routes / catch.

Seems like a no brainer to me to take the TE that can do both.

The old staff would have taken 2 fbs and no TE.

Shenker has a decent set of hands, but he doesn't look incredibly fast or have the ability to get many yards after the catch. Nothing else stands out.

Plenty of teams run the ball without a fullback. Even the dumbest of commentators, Jordan Rodgers, knows this simple fact about the Gus Malzahn offense "follow the fullback to the ball carrier." Getting rid of the FB means eliminating an easy key for the defense. Time to progress on offense.

Do you think people didn't know this in 2013?

Good play calling then uses the fullback as a decoy for traps and counters

Good running backs should be able to find cutback lanes when the defense over commits to where the FB is blocking

He's not.

In HS; so maybe a 4.7-4.8 in real life.

I'm sure this guy is a pretty good FB; but the ranking still means nothing to me. Cox was ranked up there and it was a big deal when we got him, and while he's been pretty good, he's made some horrendous plays totally unbecoming of a "Top 3 FB" or whatever he was ranked.

Prosch was 20LB bigger despite being an inch shorter plus was all muscle no fat.

This kid wouldn't be able to lift Prosch's warmup weights right now

Gus Malzahn, Chip Lindsey visit Beauregard High about La’Damian Webb (Opelika-Auburn News)
quote:

Lindsey, who Auburn hired as its offensive coordinator Saturday, and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn visited Beauregard High on Monday morning to meet with Hornets head football coach Rob Carter. The topic of conversation was Webb, Beauregard’s star running back who last Wednesday was named Alabama Mr. Football 2016 by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. The 5-foot-8, 180-pounder became the first junior to ever win the award in its 35-year existence.

“You could tell he’s put an impression on Gus Malzahn and Chip Lindsey,” Carter said. “‘He’s a great football player.’ Those were the exact words out of their mouth. They said they liked him, asked for his contact information, said they were going to start the recruiting process and just inquired about some of his background stuff. You know, ‘Tell me a little bit about him.’ It’s pretty exciting.”

Carter said a good chunk of the 30-minute conversation between the coaches centered around Webb’s performance in the state championship game on Dec. 1. Webb set the Super 7 record for all classifications in all three of the major rushing categories — carries (51), rushing yards (359), and rushing touchdowns (five) — as he led the Hornets to a 33-13 win over Wenonah in the 5A state title game. It was the first state championship in the 53-year history of the Beauregard football program.

“[Coach Malzahn] just said he thought it was an amazing feat to run it 51 times, to rack up the yards he did, the touchdowns he did, and to play defense, too,” Carter said. “He really laid a lot of the conversation toward that championship game and his effort and his abilities.

“Coach Lindsey definitely liked his abilities and talents from his film. They’ve watched his film, obviously. We talked about some of his athletic abilities and his durability. Physically, they like him.”

Will be one of the more interesting recruitments to follow next cycle. Webb puts up video game numbers but is not that big of a dude. Granted we have a guy shorter than him already committed so maybe we will just go all in on 5'9" RBs behind 6'7" OL idea

On the road today ....(247)
quote:

We know that ...

Chip Lindsey stopped by Colquit County, Ga.,

Scott Fountain was in southeast Alabama/southwest Georgia.

Travis Williams was in Gwinnett County, Ga., -- and offered a lot of young prospects.

Will post more -- if we get them. AU pretty tight-lipped about this, so our sources sometimes can't get much.

That was really on the road yesterday FYI

Beyond his years: Auburn legacy, 2019 star Bo Nix has recruiters' attention (AL.com)
quote:

Bo Nix's statistics, experience and accolades betray his true age.

The Scottsboro quarterback is coming off his sophomore season, but he already holds multiple program career records and is a four-star recruit. Nix, who has started since the midway point of his eighth-grade season, recently added another honor when he was named a sophomore All-American by recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.

"It's pretty special to be one of three quarterbacks named as a sophomore," Nix said last week while in Montgomery for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Mr. Football Banquet. "It's a big honor. I've got to hold true to it and keep working hard and show that I'm one of the best."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Nix threw for 1,737 yards and 16 touchdowns, ran for 1,300 yards and 20 scores, and was a Class 5A Back of the Year finalist this past season. His passing yardage and completions (101) were Scottsboro single-season records, and his passing TD total tied a program record.

Nix is already the Wildcats' all-time leader in passing yards (3,716) and completions (227), and he eclipsed former Alabama star Pat Trammell with his 41st career touchdown pass last season.

"I've been around a while, but it's kind of cool to know that I have two more years to go," Nix said. "I've just got to keep working and keep on doing what I can do to be the best that I can be."

Auburn commit Austin Troxell provides update on ACL rehab (AL.com)
quote:

Austin Troxell is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament tear he suffered last September.

The Madison Academy offensive lineman and Auburn commitment took his official visit to the Plains last weekend and shared the good news Sunday.

"I got cleared to jog about a week and a half ago," Troxell said. "It's coming along pretty well... It feels really good right now, It's a little awkward, like learning to run again, but I'll get the hang of it. It comes along with it."

The 6-foot-7, 325-pound offensive tackle suffered the injury Sept. 16 during his team's 47-17 win over Westminster Christian. It was the same injury he had the season prior in the first round of the AHSAA Class 4A playoffs.

Troxell's goal is to make a full recovery by the spring.

"The last one was kind of just a shock because I've never really been injured big like that before in my life," he said. "This time around I was like, 'Here we go again, another surgery, another recovery, another six to eight months I'm going to be out and watching games that I'm not going to be playing. I kind of knew what to expect and it made it a lot easier."

'I love Auburn': 5-star Calvin Ashley shuts down recruitment (AL.com)
quote:

The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder took his official visit to Auburn last weekend and said other schools and coaches have backed off.

"Recruiting sometimes gets very stressful," Ashley said Sunday. "Me, I love Auburn. It's a great place. I love the coaching staff, so I cleared it up on Twitter. I'm all Auburn. It's been over for years.

"Since that tweet was out, it's done. It's in. No more schools, none of that stuff... Shutting it down."

With National Signing Day just nine days away, Ashley does not plan on taking any other visits. That has to be music to Auburn's ears -- as a five-star prospect and the nation's No. 27 overall player, Ashley is the highest-rated commitment in Auburn's 2017 recruiting class.

Ashley is originally from Orlando, Fla., but played his final season of prep football at St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. Last weekend's visit marked the first time he'd been to the Plains since last summer, and he was happy to reconnect with the coaches and fellow recruits.

"It was great," he said. "It was good to be back with my guys and stuff and just having a great time, just kicking and stuff. It was pretty fun... I haven't been here in a while, so just to hang out with the coaches and (see) the new stuff, it just felt good to be back home."

Auburn recruiting: Latest intel on 10 need-to-know commits, targets (SECCountry)
quote:

4-star LB Tyler Taylor

The big surprise came Sunday when Taylor said Auburn and LSU — not Oklahoma — were his top 2 with his decision to come later in the week. Taylor has an in-home visit planned with Auburn on Tuesday. Kevin Steele and Travis Williams will join. An LSU in-home isn’t finalized. The Sooners are also expected to work their way in for a home visit too, so don’t count them out. Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy will visit Taylor this week. Taylor has a long-standing relationship with the Cowboys’ staff.

An interesting part of the equation here is the Oklahoma vs. LSU chase for inside linebacker commit Jacob Phillips, who is committed to the Sooners. LSU is working hard for a Phillips flip. Phillips is the No. 1 inside linebacker option for both schools, and he might not have a decision until National Signing Day.

Those schools’ pursuits of Taylor — compared to the Tigers’ prioritization of him — should help give Auburn the edge.

On top of that, Taylor’s decision will be strongly advised by his mother. She’s a fan of all three programs he’s considering, but as Taylor pointed out Sunday, there’s something a little different about Auburn.

“My mom really loves it here,” Taylor said. “At all the schools, the coaches are really nice, but sometimes we feel like they are just recruiting. At Auburn, we really know that they are going to take care of us.”

quote:

4-star DE Markaviest Bryant

Bryant to Georgia is a lock, right? Not so fast.

The Cordele (Ga.) linebacker/defensive end has been trending to the Bulldogs for a long time. He has said so himself plenty over the course of the last 2 or 3 months. But Bryant also has expressed a desire to be patient, so he can make one right decision. It appears that wait is starting to make things interesting.

An SEC Country source has said that people should maybe start to expect a surprise on National Signing Day when Bryant is likely to decide. That sounds like bad news for Georgia and good news for Auburn or LSU. That comment comes fresh off an official to Baton Rouge, which seems to be a school making a late push. I’ve mentioned LSU as a sleeper for Bryant before. I don’t think it can be considered a sleeper anymore.

Auburn has the last laugh this upcoming weekend. With a decision truly up in the air, the Tigers will cherish their opportunity to host Bryant last.

None of this is to say Georgia is out of it, by any means. The Bulldogs are still the favorite in most circles. But this source close to Bryant has watched him trend elsewhere in recent weeks.

I’ll abstain from a prediction until after his Auburn official visit. It will be critical.
