DCraig hitched his wagon to the les miles offense...and now his stuck with orgeron. It was a pretty dumb move... He'd probably even admit that now. Two years of his WRs catching passes from Danny Elting

Don't get me wrong, Craig will find work even if his LSU tenure fails... but his ambitions for becoming a HC one day are taking a hit.

Per Friedman: Hunter will not OV to AU this weekend.

This, after Scout's "MAJOR" 5-star update. Previously silent commit to shitty VT. He's a good one. fricking sucks.

Hopefully underrated gems Peters and Gonzalez are ready.

Haha. I didn't say it was a good move. Just saying that he got equally high pay to not be stuck in an offense with 6 plays

I don't blame him at all for leaving Gus' staff. Just like I'm not surprised AU seems to be struggling to find an offensive coordinator.

Orgeron visiting Georgia LB (247)
quote:

The Tigers are hoping to close strong with Georgia four-star Tyler Taylor, who made an official visit to LSU with his mother this past weekend. While LSU was sitting in the third spot behind Auburn and Oklahoma going into the trip, Taylor told 247Sports that it's now a three-way tie at the top with one visit left.

This weekend, Taylor will head to his official visit at Auburn. He then plans to make his college announcement early next week, telling 247Sports that the decision will be public by Wednesday.

On Thursday, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda are headed to the Peach State for an in-home visit with Taylor and his family. The visit comes just one day prior to his departure for The Plains.

LSU doesn't have any Crystal Ball predictions in for them at this stage, but the Tigers are quietly gaining some confidence in having a shot with the four-star when he makes his decision next week.

Glad we have last official visit on this one

Simmons: Tigers' top commits will shine at Auburn (247)
quote:

Who are the elite prospects in the 2017 Auburn recruiting class? Barton Simmons, national director of scouting for 247Sports, shares his thoughts in this video interview. He highlights six Auburn commits, a few of who already are enrolled. And, he noted, one of those players -- quarterback Jarrett Stidham -- could make Auburn a title contender very soon. (NOTE: This video was cut before the 247Sports rankings were updated earlier this week. The rankings you see with these players are not the current ones).

Video in the link. Simmons loves him some Moultry

KN had recruiting insider up this morning

- AU was scheduled to visit 2 recruits in Florida today: 4* RB Devan Barrett & 4* OT Kai-Leon Herbert. Barrett is getting pressure from Tennessee & Clemson but remains solid. Finding OC would help lock him up. AU feels like they are in the race for Herbert but UF probably team to beat. Miami is surging as well and he visits there this weekend

- Still a fight for 4* DE Ryan Johnson but AU feels good about where they are at. KN says one source says Bama the top threat while another says Stanford. Source from another program thinks Johnson ends up at AU. He officially visits AU this weekend then has trips to Bama & Texas after that. Still no word on if he has gotten into Stanford yet

- LSU pushing hard to 4* LB Tyler Taylor. Their selling pitch is LB need considering the lack of ILBs they have on roster and in this class. AU & Oklahoma both have decent LB classes already so it's a solid play. Still he officially visits AU this weekend so we get the last visit. Plans to announce sometime next week between Monday & Wednesday probably over Twitter

- Staff felt visit went real well with 4* S Devon Hunter but the feeling is might be hard to rundown VT. Considering news later in the day with Hunter not going to officially visit I think this one is over. Damn you Ole Miss

- AU visited now composite 4* WR Noah Igbinoghene today. He recently got an Oregon offer but as of now doesn't plan to visit and is solid to AU

- Despite disappointing 2017 WR receiver class AU is feeling pretty good about 2018. They think they are in a good spot with 4* Justyn Ross and are a darkhorse for 4* Jacob Copeland. Copeland is expected to visit in two weekends for what should be a big junior day

KN has list up for visitors this weekend. The big ones are 4* LB Tyler Taylor & 4* DE Ryan Johnson. Also there is a chance 4* WR Oliver Martin will visit. They set one up with him earlier this week on visit but since then both Florida & Michigan have tried to do the same. We will see if he makes it

quote:

EXPECTED VISITORS

-5-star OT Calvin Ashley (commit)

-5-star LB Tadarian Moultry (commit)

-4-star WR Noah Igbinoghene (commit)

-4-star DE/DT Ryan Johnson

-4-star LB Tyler Taylor

-4-star OT Austin Troxell (commit)

-4-star ATH Alaric Williams (commit)

-3-star DB Carlito Gonzalez (commit)

-3-star FB Chase Lasater

-3-star DB Traivon Leonard (commit)

-3-star DB Jordyn Peters (commit)

COULD VISIT

-4-star WR Oliver Martin

I think Lasater is on commit watch but we will see

4* QB Joey Gatewood has gotten a ton of offers recently including Texas, Oregon & UGA. KN thinks getting a new OC on board will help a lot with him and expect AU to be in the race for him all season. For now he is still committed

5-star RB gets Auburn visit (247)
quote:

Yes, Auburn is focused on finishing up the 2017 recruiting class on a high note. But the Tigers also have visited several top 2018s this week as well.

One of them is Lorenzo Lingard of Orange City (Fla.) University.

If you haven't heard of him, you will. The 6-feet, 180-pound running back is a 5-star recruit and top-10 overall player in the junior class according to the 247Sports rankings.

On Wednesday, Tigers assistant Scott Fountain stopped by his school. Auburn has been there mutiples times, with Fountain, Lingard's area recruiter, splitting visits with running backs coach Tim Horton.

At this time, our sources indicate Auburn is one of a handful of programs very much in the mix with, most notably, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Ohio State. When reached Thursday, Lingard told us his interest in Auburn was "medium" at the moment. He added, however that "I really like Coach (Gus) Malzahn."

Multiple schools want Lingard at their junior day events next weekend (Auburn will have some elite 2018s in town). But according to Lingard, he won't make it to any -- he has a track meet that day.

Auburn hopes to get Lingard on campus this spring and/or summer but Lingard said, "as of right now, I have no clue when I can visit them." For the moment, his focus is on running track. In the 100 meters, he has a best time of 10.79 seconds.

Lingard visited Auburn last summer.

When asked in the fall what stood out there, he replied, “You know, great hospitality. They showed that. And just giving me lots of information about their program and how they could help me in the long run.”

Additionally, the Tigers played up the “Running Back U.” angle.

“They showed me a lot of their trophies they have for the running backs —for their individual achievements,” Lingard said.

Auburn’s biggest official visit weekend lineup set; Malzahn makes key visits (SECCountry)
quote:

Official visits: The granddaddy of them all

For a week with little real recruiting action, a lot happened in seven days.

Last week, I pre-capped the Jan. 13 official visit weekend. It included four visitors: Alec Jackson, Kai-Leon Herbert, Thomas Johnston and Poutasi Poutasi. Jackson closed down his recruitment. Herbert thrust Auburn into his top group alongside Florida and Miami — and, oh, yeah, Michigan. Johnston gave the Tigers a legitimate chance after his initial pushback to play H-back.

That’s a busy week for Auburn’s supposed “down weekend” as far as official visits go.

This one upcoming couldn’t be more different in terms of pre-weekend expectations. The biggest commit of the 2017 class, Calvin Ashley, will make his long-awaited return to Auburn. All three committed defensive backs will make their first trip to Auburn since the secondary coach switch. Three uncommitted prospects, reasonably speaking, all could be committed to the Tigers within a week of their officials.

To say this weekend is a high-stakes recruiting weekend wouldn’t do it justice. Here’s a full look at all the known visitors — eight commits and four targets. If surprise visitors emerge, which is possible, their names will be added to the list.

quote:

Malzahn has been a busy man recruiting-wise despite rampant speculation about his offensive coordinator search. He made several rounds on Monday. Malzahn saw at least two prospects on Wednesday: Joey Gatewood and Devon Hunter.

Gatewood is the prized jewel of the 2018 class. He was a Rhett Lashlee commit, through and through. Auburn doesn’t want him to get way. Other schools are calling. Texas offered on Wednesday. At least two historic Power 5 programs were in contact with Gatewood less than an hour after Lashlee’s departure, a source told SEC Country.

But Gatewood is impressed by Auburn’s prioritization. The Tigers are thick in 2017 traffic, and Malzahn is taking time to stop by Gatewood’s school — he can’t see Gatewood because of an NCAA rule. Gatewood will attend Auburn’s junior day on Jan. 28.

Next Generation: Underrated Malik Willis adds flair to Auburn quarterback competition (SECCountry)
quote:

That’s Malik. The 3-star prospect who barely attended camps. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound athlete who maybe or maybe wasn’t wanted as a quarterback by schools. That’s him taking over when his team needed a leader, against a defense loaded with next-level talent.

“Just so calm, collected. Nothing you can teach. Completely un-rattled,” then-Roswell coach John Ford said. “The moment was never too big for him.”

Overtime ended with an unfavorable result for Willis & Co. Grayson made its field goal. Roswell missed its attempt. For the second time in his QB career, Willis lost. But that wasn’t the takeaway most grabbed from that night.

It was that Willis — 21-2 in his season-and-a-half as a varsity quarterback — deserved to be in the same conversation with the likes of Jake Fromm, Davis Mills, Trevor Lawrence and the other elite signal-callers from Georgia. Willis finished his high school career with 3,318 passing yards, 41 passing touchdowns, 1,725 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns against the toughest competition in the state.

Coaches who might’ve erred on the side of caution before had no choice but to take notice.

“He’s not done learning. That’s something Coach (Gus) Malzahn and Coach (Rhett) Lashlee was also attracted to — his upside,” Mark Willis said. “Malzahn was like, ‘If he was playing the position at this high of a level his full sophomore and junior year, he’d be a top guy in the country. I told him I’m glad it happened the way it did. That’s where his character comes from. That’s where his work ethic comes from.”

quote:

They watched the Colquitt County game early in the season. They reviewed the North Cobb semifinal game against Auburn linebacker commit Chandler Wooten. And, of course, they witnessed the title game against Grayson.

The Auburn offensive staffers were mesmerized by Willis’ progression as a quarterback, and they didn’t wait to tell him.

“Over the phone, it was just excitement in their voices,” Willis said. “They said they liked my skill set, my ability to throw and run. They said I fit the offense perfectly. They’ve got Sean (White), John (Franklin), Jarrett (Stidham), all those people. But they said they like my fit and skill set.”

quote:

Four years ago, John Ford made multiple trips to Auburn to discuss the development of his playbook with Gus Malzahn and Tim Horton. That gives you a proper idea of the playbook Willis orchestrated during his senior season. By the end of the season, John Ford felt like Willis picked it up better than most quarterbacks who have used it.

That will make Willis’ transition to Auburn much simpler.

“It’s going to make it easier to lock into the Auburn offense. It’s just terminology really. They run a lot of the same plays. The inside zone. A lot of play-action. All that. I’ve just got to find the terminology and match it with my old terminology, and I’ll be straight,” Willis said. “I’m ready to just get into the playbook.”

quote:

Stidham, White and Franklin all have the Power 5 experience. Barrett and Queen don’t have that, but they both are mobile with big-armed ability that should make them conversation starters this offseason. Willis is garnering comparisons to Cam Newton and Nick Marshall — logical associations for athletic Auburn quarterbacks. The only difference: Willis is much further along than both of those were as passers when they left high school.

Long but really good story on Willis

St. Paul's standout Ryan Johnson ready for Auburn, Texas visits as Signing Day looms (AL.com)
quote:

The St. Paul's defensive lineman, who was named Class 5A Lineman of the Year in Montgomery on Wednesday, told AL.com that he is no longer considering Oregon and Notre Dame.

That leaves Auburn, Stanford, Southern Cal, Texas and Alabama.

National Signing Day is Feb. 1.

"I will probably commit sometime next week," he said. "I haven't finalized anything. I've got a few visits left, and I want to see what they have to offer."

Texas and Auburn coaches visited Johnson earlier this week. Southern Cal is also scheduled to do an in-home visit this week.

Johnson said he will take an official visit to Auburn this weekend and to Texas during the week next week. He could visit USC or Alabama on the final weekend before signing day.

That's a great article on Malik Willis.

Kid is impressive. Now just hoping he can put on 15-20 pounds.

If he can just get to 205 or 210 that's plenty. NM was about that size. This kid seems to have a very similar demeanor to that.

Oops I forgot. That or I'm sure there's a casino nearby with loose slots for recruits.
