When you have five straight 10+ win seasons along with consecutive top 10 defenses, you normally attract top talent on defense

Plus there is a lot to be said that when half the fan base is a giant bag of assholes screaming about firing a coach two years removed from a BCSCG because of a step back when losing a good quarterback. Fans don't think their voices are heard but the talking heads hear you with that kind of bullshite and they are the ones that recruits hear.
If I was a top tier kid coming out of high school I wouldn't want to go to a school screaming to fire their coach and all the pundits talking about how his days are numbered.

state school has a built in recruiting base no matter what too. They can fire Miles tomorrow and not have a coach on signing day and still have a class half full of great athletes that dreamed of playing there.

And retention. We've had 7 top 150 and total of 10 top 250 players leave/dismissed/transfer from Auburn in those recruiting classes 2013-2015.
Those guys who aren't even on the team were a big part of our recruiting ranking

This is depressing to look into
Since the BCS Era started here are the worst records in the 2 years following a championship appearance
1- 2012 AU (3-9)
2- 2010 Texas (5-7)
3- 2002 Nebraska (7-7)
4- 2015 Auburn (7-6)
T5- 2011 AU (8-5) & a few others
