Hopefully this is a wake up call to Gus and our decision makers... We have to get younger on our defensive staff... we need young strong recruiters in our defensive staff that can relate with recruits and build the personal relationships.
I'm optimistic malzahn and muschamp can get it done... it's just probably not gonna be with the 2015 class... and that will hurt us near term on the field.

The way our defense played, subsequent firing of our DC and the tossup future of the rest of the D-Staff, I don't see how this lull is unexpected

You think the issue is our staff was too old and not the fact we haven't fielded a competent defense in years?

A&Ms defense sucked dick the last three years, yet they signed the best DL in the country last Feb.... UGA hired a new DC and DL coach last year after Grantham fielded a shite defense... and they signed the second best DL last Feb.
our defense wasn't great in 2013, but it had it's moments.... and our defense started out 2014 looking solid before shitting the bed the last few weeks. I do think our struggles had a lot to so with it, but that's not telling the whole story at all.

How old is the DL coach they hired? Georgia has also had really good defenses, hired a proven good defensive coach, and has put DLinement in the NFL with success recently. We have not, besides hired the good defensive coach.

Our 'old' staff also put together one of the best DL classes in the country a few years back. Unfortunately, results matter too.

Not to the people around here. They would bitch and melt if he didn't pick us, but complain that he's not good enough because he's only a 3* with offers from MSU and UK.

Because UT has been doing a toilet swirl and they have been the hot thing in Texas. 10/12 defensive commits were from the state of Texas. Also, Myles Garret, the main driver of that got real big after he committed to TAMU I believe

Ignoring the obvious recruiting advantages of being the major instate school in GA compared to our lack of recruiting advantages, UGA has had very good defenses in the past 5 years and even their bad defense last year is as good as our best in that span.
Add in that UGA still send defensive players to the league as high draft picks and just in general

We were the worst defense to ever make it to the national championship. We have only had 5 NFL draft picks since 2010. Georgia had 7 drafted in 2013 alone.
