Here's a scary thought. Would/could Florida pay the buyout for Pearl plus offer him $5 mil a year?

They wouldn't, regardless of whether they could or not.

No way. And if they do then more power to them because I don't think he's worth $5 million per year

Given Calipari is at $7+ mil & Pearl is arguably the #2 coach in the SEC one could make an easy argument for him to deserve it based on where Cal has taken the market.

Saw where Lawson Schaffer picked Bama over us. He was the ideal type of player you want to walk on. Might not be athletic enough to make it in the SEC,but kid can shoot.

I wouldn't think he would be worth $5millino at a school like UF.

For a school like AU who has to pay a premium for top coaches, I could see it.

I'm sure you know I don't know how to troll. You may disagree w/ it but it was my honest assessment of where Cal has placed the Bball coach salary market.

One thing I did forget though til now is many schools will not pay a Bball coach more than a football coach. So in that term of market he's not worth $5 mil.

He wouldn't get more than Gus & he's not at $5 mil yet.

There's a thousand factors. My masters is in applied economics. And although I'm not an economist, I can assure you that Cal being paid 7M doesn't mean that a school, such as Alabama, would justify paying Pearl based on Cal's and Saban's contract.

In fact, someone would be fired from their consultant role if they offered that advice. I promise you that

You could have stopped right there. That basically means my input on the topic is complete shite.

I assume the same goes for Florida as well?

I used Alabama because Saban makes more than $5 million. McElwain is making in the neighborhood of 3,5 or whatever.

But anyway, usually coaching contracts are based on value creation. UF does well with basketball, and they're inclined to pay a basketball coach more than a football coach. Donovan was the bread winner in that coaching family. But Donovan was being paid $4M, and so I am guessing Florida will go to a younger coach that they will pay less and control through incentive raises for a long time. That's how they roll in the swamp.

value creation
Is that $ generated from ticket sales, concessions, merchandise, apparel deal, & coach appearances or is VC something else?

I was focusing more on the value that a coach brings to the university, which I'm not sure what metric is used to determine that. I think I read that UF's basketball program makes money, but only a few million per year. Which is good, but you wouldn't necessarily base your coach's salary based on program revenue or the value created by the basketball program.

What happened to the beliefs he was a Duke lock?

Changing the subject...I really don't think Florida will pursue Pearl. They do need to act quick though. Would you say CBD kinda screwed them over by leaving at this moment?

That is why we will never hear "he gone". It really was a genius of a hire by Jacobs.

'genius' and 'Jacobs' don't go in the same sentence.
