Howland is a very legit coach. He had some issues dealing with the stars together at UCLA in a city like LA, but MSU is going to be a great fit for him.
I just wish Pearl had at least 1-2 more years to consolidate before guys like Howland showed up.

While the signing of Heron and Harper are great, we're going to be small yet again next year if we don't add a big man or two in the late signing period. All we'll have in the frontcourt next year currently is Spencer and McLemore.
I'm sure Pearl will get somebody, but it's scary to think about how thin we may be back there yet again with Harris, Bowers and Granger all leaving. Austin Wiley can't get here soon enough.

Our front court depth is scary to think about going forward. That is assuming Trayvon Reed comes back too
Current projected Players over 6'5 in 2016-17 (w/ Reed)
SG/SF TJ Lang - 6'7
PF Anfernee McKelmore - 6'7
PF/C Horace Spencer - 6'9
C Trayvon Reed - 7'2

Keep in mind, Trayvon Reed is expected back as well next year
1) I'm not counting on this.
2) Even if he does happen to return, how much progress can coaches realistically expect out of a project guy like Reed who's been away from the game for a year?
But yeah, if we can't land someone in the late period, I imagine we'd go the grad transfer route again.

I think the bigger issue is that we will only have 4 players over 6'5 next year and one of them (Lang) is a SG/SF

We still have at least 1 spot open if Reed returns to sign another post. We could have up to 3 more spots open if Reed doesn't return and Waddell goes back of scholarship.

If I remember correctly, Howland wasn't very liked by the NCAA basketball coaching community when he left UCLA. Why was that?
And he must not be very smart to leave the oceanfront to land in Starkville Mississippi.
frick him.

I don't know what Howland did but he is a good coach with a good history. He should win at MSU

Bam is expected to commit tomorrow.

Per Corey Evans and as expected, Ado committed to State to play ball in a dumpster.

Playing in the Hump is the equivalent of playing in Beard Eaves. I honestly don't know how anyone is sold the idea of playing there.
But then again that could be said about Stegeman, the PMac at LSU, ODome at UF, Memorial Gym at Vandy, and even Coleman Coliseum. The Hump is by far the worst out of them all though

He is a very good recruiter but an average coach. Lost to a SWAC team tonight. Newman wasn't 100% but a SEC team should never lose to a team from the SWAC.

MSU didn't return much and if Newman was injured, thats basically game over for them.
Not saying Howland is a great coach but remember that he was the one that brought Pitt back into being a good program then he did win big at UCLA

I think I saw where MSU had like 4 seniors and 1 junior this year. If true they have the experience. I agree with MCT. Howland is an amazing recruiter, but that really the only way he wins. I don't really see him outcoaching one of the big dogs when talent is on the same level/better than what he has. In a year or two they will be scary though.

If you return horrible players, that means nothing. I don't think Coach K could have won with our experience laden 2012 & 2013 teams
On 12-13 and 13-14 teams, Auburn had meaningful minutes from
2012 - 3 SR , 4 JR
2013 - 3 SR , 2 JR

I doubt AU is even in 2nd so doesn't matter. UK is just so stacked that them getting another 5* makes a negligible marginal improvement.

Hoped he would've gone to NC State to get him out of the SEC. Guy is legit.

There is no difference between losing to Kentucky be 20 and 30 in my book
