2012 Arkansas was the official end of that season, but 2012 LSU definitely broke the team's spirits.

But man that Arkansas game. They had John L Smith as a head coach, had just lost like 59-0 to Alabama and lost to ULM at home, and we had a BYE week coming into the game, and we weren't even that competitive and our offense looked like refried shite.

Had we lost to LSU this year, we still had a cupcake the next week and I think Auburn is just better than MSU. Dunno if the the wheels come off that badly.

We actually play better in the 2nd half this year. Can't remember an AU team like that. We usually roll over in the 2nd.

The difference was that Chizik doubled down on the micromanaging after the LSU game (Bolt in the defense meeting, taking more control of the offense), and Gus recognized he couldn't do it all by himself and put more trust in his assistants so he could be a head coach. Chizik lost the team and his staff.
