2012 vs. 2016

Almost the exact same situation the two seasons heading into the LSU game at the same point in the season.
Both were hard fought but ugly games and we obviously know how they both turned out.
It seemed like in 2012 it was the last gasp and after the game the team just quit whereas this year we won and totally turned the season around the other way.
All that to say, and obviously this is completely hypothetical I was just thinking about this earlier when I was bored, had we lost the LSU game do you think the season would have totally gone in the tank ala 2012?

No.
Chiz had lost the team.
Chiz had lost the team.

You don't think Gus would have lost the team had we lost that game?
Hell, it may not have even been his team to lose.

Yeah, and remember the security company Gus hired this year just like 2012?
Crazy the resemblance

This years team is so much more talented than that team. 2012 was a combination of being a bad team and the coaches not being leaders. I do t think it has been similar at all.

This team is closer to the the 1912 team than the 2012 team. Doug Barfield's teams weren't as bad as 2012.

That 2012 team played Clemson and LSU tough. It wasn't until after LSU it totally came apart.
They also went to the national title game the next season so while it didn't seem like it at the time there obviously was some talent on the field.

People will not like it but this is actually a pretty good comparison as far as how the season started.

If it makes the Gus haters feel better, then sure why not.

Yeah, but they had also already lost to Mississippi State who were lackluster that year and gone to OT to best ULM. Most everyone that I knew on campus was dreading a beatdown from LSU then we got our hopes up when that game was close. Shouldn't have.

We play the same teams almost every year. If that is the totality of your point, then 2016 = every year.

Not sure how you came to that conclusion regarding my "point" but then I'm rarely sure how you develop any of your opinions.

I don't think so because we don't have the same off field issues and Loeffler isn't on staff. Seriously, that guy is an awful OC.
Gus showed last year he has the ability to keep the team together through adversity. We were preseason darlings with the Heisman winner and we fell hard. I never saw quit in our guys.
I think Gus learned a lot last year regarding team dynamics from the coaching staff (rumors of problems) to players (Duke). I think that's why we saw Jovon dismissed with a quickness this year.

I think the 2012 LSU loss broke the Auburn team and Chiz wasn't a strong enough leader to pick up the 2012 Auburn team and motivate them to finish strong. Chiz lost control of the locker room and scrambled to regain it but only damaged it further.
I had a feeling that if we lost the LSU game this year then it could happen again, but we won.

No comparison,
The HC/OC/DC of that team are:
- Chizik: DC of team ranked 10th in ACC/61st in nation in scoring defense
- VanGorder: Fired from Notre Dame 4 games into 2016 for fielding one of the worst Irish defenses of all-time
- Loeffler: QB coach at Boston College
Looking back that team was doomed from the jump. Not to mention the QB situation.

I am not sure how you come to any of the thoughts you have either. Win/Win!
I don't opine. Just the facts.

Hindsight is 20/20
Take yourself back to the day before the LSU game.
There were probably a lot of people on this board who would have traded Gus and Lashlee for Loeffler after the Clemson game.
At the time the Van Gorder hire was looked upon MUCH, MUCH more favorably than Steele.

believe it or not most falcon fans were glad we hired vangorder away from them I at first thought it was just sour grapes then after game 2 of 2012 one guy claiming to be a falcons fan posted on an auburn board saying "Auburn trolled itself by hiring vangorder and as a falcons fan he knew how bad the guy was." I still thought meh just one guy what does he know? but now maybe they were actually onto something?

Maybe but he put out some really good defenses at UGA in the early/mid 00s.

In 2012, our offense came in to the game averaging 336 yards per game. Against LSU we managed a whopping 183.
In 2016, our offense came into the game averaging 456 yards per game. Against LSU we gained 388.
It was clear by the LSU game that our offense was headed for a 2008-level disaster. In fact, take out our only three games against non-P5 teams, and it was actually worse (the '08 clusterfrick managed 265 yards per game against top-level opposition, 2012 only 250).
If you had any doubt how bad our offense was, the following week against the worst Arky team in recent memory removed all doubt. It was at that point that whatever progress BVG had made with the defense was wasted, and it was that game, not LSU, that broke the team for good.
