I figured we would be on probation within 5 years.

Best Auburn hire ever in any sport. He was my fav coach in college basketball when he was at UT. When we hired him I couldn't believe it!

I'm very impressed he's stayed with Auburn that long.

Seems like a smart match.

I couldn't believe that we had hired him either. We tended to find some successful mid-major guy so he could come to Auburn and watch his career die.

I figured he would get us back in the tournament, then leave...5 years max and we would cross our fingers and hope to find someone who could continue with some level of success.

Never dreamed that, 10 years and 200 wins later, BP would have a ticket to Neville the toughest ticket in town. I always thought that given a team to support, Auburn would support them in droves, but Barbee took the program to it's lowest point since I've been going to bball games, since 1961.

It took a truly special person to achieve what BP has achieved. We needed him in the worst way, and he needed us then too. Then he fell in love with Auburn. Love Auburn, and it will love you back.

Bruce has to be on the Mt. Rushmore of big 3 sports coaches at AU by now, right?

Shug, Dye, Baird, and Bruce.

I may be forgetting something obvious, but that's the 4 that came to mind first. And I'm not counting guys like Marsh because swimming and diving is such a niche just like equestrian and whatever else Auburn may have had dominant runs in. Just talking big 3: football, basketball and baseball.

We went from Tony Barbee to Bruce Pearl.

Doesn't seem real looking back on how damn bad those Barbee teams were.

Neville was the quietest place on campus.

I remember Rod doing a post game interview toward the end of his time at Auburn. Went about like this:

Rod: Well, we lost another one.
TB: Yep.
Rod: Well, that wraps it up from the Arena. Good night and War Eagle.

Rod didn't even want to talk to him. Dead coach, coaching.

I remember Barbee talking shite about the players and the program when he was hired by Cal @ UK. This is a grown arse man who can’t accept he did a terrible job and he’s trashing the program he had been hired to build

He talked. We dug ourselves out of the whole he dug and then won an average of 20 games a season over the next 10 years.
