I think VADawg, and I, would argue that a RB just cannot do that type of franchise elevating anymore.

Just taking a look at the NFL Top 100, 10 RBs are in there and only 3 were drafted in the first round. (Barkley, McCaffrey, and Josh Jacobs)

Well that’s who he is being compared to.

If he turns out as good as them, to me, it will have been a worthwhile pick.

We’ll find out soon.

Again, Carolina went 1-5 before the McCaffrey trade last season and 6-5 after.

Josh Jacobs has not made a damn bit of difference for the Raiders. They suck with or without him.

The Giants weren't good because of Barkley. His rookie season was better than last season for him and the Giants sucked when he was a rookie. They only got good when they hired a coach who could build an offense around what Daniel Jones does well.

My point is that ever since Mike Shanahan showed the league how to build a dominant running game no matter who was in the backfield, using valuable resources on RBs has been a losing proposition. The only RB I've watched in the last 20 years who was a legitimate difference maker was Adrian Peterson. The rest of them (and even Peterson to an extent; I still remember a 23 carry 45 yard playoff game against the Seahawks) are almost entirely dependent on scheme and OL play.

Ezekiel Elliott, for example, put up cartoonish numbers for Dallas. You know who else did? DeMarco Murray two years before that. The commonality was Dallas had a dominant OL.

The really good RBs are very fun to watch and are awesome for your fantasy team, but RBs just aren't franchise changing players anymore.

I really, really hope I'm wrong, but just like there's now a decade worth of data that says paying QBs big money is a bad idea since the rookie wage scale was put into place, there's also a mountain of data that says that spending valuable resources on RBs is pointless.

I also don't think there's a huge difference between Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs.

One of the dumbest draft picks in a long, long time.

No, it wasn't. Blank would never have let Fontenot draft Carter with their top ten first round pick. So, get over that.

Blank is good at selling concessions and hardware.
He’s a football idiot.
