So many Texas expats at U of A= Whataburger going to make an arse-load of money.

Double meat cheeseburger with bacon and jalapeños is the bomb. And Whataburger ketchup is so good (really) that they sell it at HEB groceries here in Texas.

Chuys is actually pretty good for a chain. The Mexican Martini made with pepper-infused Tequila is outstanding.

If any if you Fayetteville folks are looking for a restaurant concept, I'd suggest Lupe Tortilla that originated in Houston.

They've only been franchising for a few years. Fantastic food

Another one coming is Napa Flats. I know one of the partners in this new concept. The owners are ex-Outback players who have branched out on their own. They started in College Station and have hit hard. They are about to open in Tulsa and are looking to grow slowly but intelligently. NWA is one of their preferred early targets.

I really hope to see CookOut make it into Arkansas by the time I make it back. They are all over the Carolinas, Georgia, and recently Tennessee.

Yeah, I don't get that statement at all.

He's not serious, right? Because I can think of many other places in the state that are MUCH shittier "restaurant cities" than Fayetteville.

Actually, I consider Fayetteville to be rather un-shitty in the dining establishment category. Pretty good, really.

Fayetteville has a very high number of quality restaurants for a town its size.

None of them are chains, 'cept Doe's.

Yes, it does. Actually, it has a good number of high quality restaurants for a town of any size, more than Baton Rouge for damn sure.

That's a good one to have. Surprisingly, I haven't tried F'ville's Doe's, but I've eaten at the Greenville & BR locations several times. There's no comparison between those two. Greenville is much better, hands down. I've been so disappointed in BR's Doe's every time I've been there that I finally stopped going.

Obviously, Greenville is going to be very good considering it's the original, but damn, I basically grew up eating there since it's so close to my hometown, and Doe's - BR does not do it justice at all. Nothing about it is even close to Greenville. The quality of beef, how it's cooked, the service, & even the sides are sub par. I did let them know that the last time I was there. It really does kind of piss me off since the original is always so good, and Baton Rouge's is so not. I'm sure Fayetteville's is much better. Pretty much everywhere I've eaten there has been consistently good.

Rally's was so greasy, it was inedible the two times I tried to eat a hamburger from there.
I've never cared for seasoned fries.

Really?

I'd like to know another city per capita that has as many failed restaurants. It's a fricking slaughterhouse here.

Also you need to consider that every time the UofA ups admission, the population trends in fayetteville shift younger. Add in the hippies... well...

This board, full of fat old men and 1 or 2 fat chicks do not represent the population of fayetteville at all, and DEFINITELY do not represent their tastes in food. Bring on another hamburger place, it can replace the one that closed literally 2 blocks down weeks ago.

You're nutty.

A burger chain in Fayetteville is just another burger chain. Some people like the idea of Whataburger because a lot of Texans live here and its a Texas-thing. They miss it. Just like someone from Fayetteville might miss Slim Chickens.

Fayetteville has lots of great restaurants, and always has. You insisting otherwise doesn't change that. I guess you're referring to "Burger Shack" closing? Nobody gives a shite about Burger Shack.

And nobody really gives a shite about the chains coming and going, because they aren't this city's "good restaurants".

I couldn't give two shits about the opening and failing of:

OCharley's
TGIFridays
that chain burger place where you pump your own nacho drizzle on your burger
Hooters
etc

The good places make it. The shitty ones fail. The reason the shitty ones fail is because we have a lot of good options here and Fayetteville as a city is way more prone to support a local place than a chain/wannabe chain.

Take your meds.

Yes, really.

And I have no idea how many failed restaurants Fayetteville or any other city in the state has had. I don't waste my time, free or otherwise, searching for that information. I do know, however, that Fayetteville has some quality restaurants, more so than most other towns in the state. Perhaps you should take a tour of it since you seem to be completely clueless about what you are attempting to comment about.

It is blatantly obvious that you have a hard on for trashing Fayetteville, which, evidently, stems from your anger at the university based on your tirade about tuition prices, younger aged citizen population increases, and your disdain for hippies, but your attempting to tie that into your utterly ridiculous assessment of Fayetteville restaurants, along with your completely freaking the frick out over a burger place opening there is absolutely insane ... literally batshit crazy.

I try not to argue with insane people because there is no point, so I will just say this ...

Considering my background and experience in the restaurant business and culinary world, not to mention my residing for almost half of my life less than an hour from a city, world renowned for its exceptionally magnificent food - from fine dining at superb 5-star restaurants, to quaint, family owned casual eateries, to unique street vendors - and having had the good fortune and pleasure of dining at a great number of those establishments over the past twenty plus years, I assure you, I have forgotten more about this industry than you will ever know about it in your entire lifetime. It is beyond laughable that you even mention "taste in food." You do not have a clue.

So, just try to calm yourself, take your medication, and remember this ...
A city can have a hamburger joint, even a fast food chain, and still maintain "good taste in food," as you so eloquently described. A quality fine dining establishment and a burger place can and do co-exist, successfully, in the same city. It has been done a few times, but as I said, this isn't really what your little bitch tantrum is about, is it?

quote:

This statement further proves your absolute idiocy and complete lack of knowledge, particularly regarding anyone on this board; you certainly have zero knowledge pertaining to me, except for the fact that I know you know NOTHING about the food and beverage industry. You have no idea what this board is full of, but I certainly know what you are completely full of.

I do not claim to represent Fayetteville, but since I did attend the UofA, (I suspect you do/did not) and still visit occasionally to watch games & see friends, frequenting the restaurants when I go, I have a pretty good idea of what people there like and don't, and I definitely know what constitutes a good restaurant and what does not, in Fayetteville or anywhere else.

quote:

Bring on another hamburger place, it can replace the one that closed literally 2 blocks down weeks ago.

Good! Maybe they'll be hiring soon! You need some experience in the food & beverage business before taking a shot at being a food snob again. Your attempt here was pathetic. At any rate, it is highly doubtful you have the intellect nor a sophisticated enough palate to be successful in that endeavor. It would probably take experiencing cuisine outside of Fayetteville as well, which apparently, you have not.

Regardless, you most definitely should apply at the new Whataburger there in town to gain restaurant experience, since you are so interested in the culinary world, but it probably would be best to take baby steps. Don't expect to get that fry cook position right away! You will need to work up to it, besides, you seem greasy enough as it is. Perhaps you should begin with the soda machine, and develop a taste for the diet ones. With all of the burgers you'll be inhaling, diet soda will become your best friend. I have a feeling you need the diet ones anyway. Usually, those who insult others, sight unseen from behind the safety of their computer screen, are the very ones who tend to be a little ... "chubby" or "homely." No offense intended, of course. Oh, definitely keep that attitude when working alongside your fellow co-workers. They're going to just love you! Good luck!

(Be sure to take your meds. Restaurant jobs can be awfully stressful. You wouldn't want to have one of these "episodes" while on shift.)
