Effective Jan 1, state sales tax rates on all candy and sodas will levy the full 6.5% state tax as opposed to the previous 1.5% food tax. The items are no longer defined as food or food ingredients as by the state legislature.
Also the same day, ANY digital media purchases or "digital code" purchases aka Netflix will be taxed at your city's full combined city, state, and county combined tax rate.
All this in Arkansas Act 141
In other news, effective Aug 1. Arkansas produced small farm wine can be sent through the mail straight to your doorstep... No previous winery visit is now needed.

Maybe that will help with the obesity rates.

I can't remember where I read it but one article suggested that the relative prosperity of Nordic countries owes a lot to local governments getting a much bigger cut (close to fifty percent in some places) of tax revenue.
Rather then hoping money trickles down from the central government they get their cut right away and can decide how best to spend it within certain guidelines.
I'm not volunteering for the high tax rates they have, but I'd be far happier knowing half of my tax dollars are going to be spent where I live.

The week I spent in Norway back in november was amazing. The northern lights were fun, the orca and whales were great, the fjords were beautiful and the winter was a nice change.
I slept better in Norway than I've slept anywhere in my life. The heated floors in my room were pretty wonderful :)
It wasn't that cold, since I was on the ocean, but it was below freezing and above the arctic circle :)
The roads were plowed immediately when it was snowing, everything was beautiful and there were no Russians.

They've never been there. They've probably never been off their fricking couches or rascal scooters.

Taxing soda won't make the slightest dent. That is merely a political talking point that is used to make it look like they're doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, while they're actually stealing your wallet.

Yep. Look up "Happiest countries in the world" sometime. It's amazing how those lists are dominated by Scandinavian and N European countries.

Fat people won't care. They will still buy it.
Good thing for the state is AR has lots of fat people.
