Arkansas State coming to LR for a Spring scrimmage

UALR rebranded to now being called:

the athletic administration’s decision to market itself as “Little Rock’s team,” with “Little Rock” as the team moniker

and a recent article said this line:

quote:

As Arkansas-Fayetteville becomes more northwest focused with its teams, relegating its central Arkansas fanbase to low-level opponents in both major sports

Guess other AD's see Central Arkansas as a vulnerable area for UA-F, and are looking to cash in on the opportunity.

Don't be ridiculous. They can do whatever they want and the vast majority of folks there will still be Razorback fans.

For the most part that's true. But kids growing up these days in central/SE Arkansas, especially kids with parents who don't have time/money to take a trip to NW Arkansas on a Saturday for a game, won't be exposed to live Arkansas football games against SEC competition. Cupcakes are essentially exhibition games when your team is good, and even worse, when your team is bad it's just an embarrassment (ULM/Toledo). That's just not a recipe to breed a strong following in other parts of the state.

If I had grown up in this era in Little Rock, I probably wouldn't have caught Razorback fever as much as I did at a young age.

I keep hearing this argument. My translation is this:

Poor people can only afford going to SEC games at WMS. The non conference games are below us.

They need to get LR kids eligible first. There is some legit D1 talent in LR and eastern AR. Problem is they either don't play or are ineligible to play football.

I think we should schedule a game in El Dorado's Memorial Stadium every season. That part of the state has been producing more talent than Central Arkansas has lately.

Fans and financial supporters are 2 different things. I do agree with the "Vast Majority" quote, but if the U of A-F allows a % of population to drift/choose a different school, over time it may add up.

Not ridiculous to think if A-State ever goes the path of Memphis, and gets into a P5, then they instantly earn credibility.

A-State coming to LR sounds like a Harbaugh move to Bert

Without central Arkansas kids the basketball team would have been worse than Mizzou the past two seasons

Memphis isn't even in a P5 conference.

Forgot that Big East split, guess you can consider them in the P7 which includes the 2 Big East Splits.

But, you get my point.

3/4 of that list hasn't contributed to Arkansas or did not attend Arkansas.

Little Rock doesn't produce what it used to.

You also listed Jeremy Sprinkle for Little Rock? Why? He isn't from Little Rock. He is from White Hall.

They've had one good season. You're going way overboard here. Their coach will likely be gone at the end of next season, if not this season.

You don't have to grow up going to games anywhere to be a fan. I lived 6 hrs away from Fayetteville when I was growing up and went to 2 LR games and 1 Fayetteville game...ever. It never affected my families fandom at all. In fact it was seen as some kind of mountaintop in the distance that everyone aspired to go to for a game.

This is why so many South Arkansas kids are so pumped and loyal when they get an offer. They rarely ever go out of state because NW Arkansas seems like a different world compared to the areas South of Little Rock. This is what those who have never lived that far away from Fayetteville don't understand… it's like going to another state.
