Just give me a wide-open offense and a heavy blitzing defense. If we're gonna lose, I wanna lose in style.

Neal Brown. He learned from Leach and Mumme.

I'd be fine with Mike Norvell, too, although he still has a lot of Fuente's guys.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not against getting an assistant from a top program, either. Why not Alabama's DC, who did great job when he was at FSU as well? Or Venables from Clemson?

I don't see us getting Morris or Frost if their alma maters want them.

Leach isn't leaving the Pac-12 for the meat grinder that is the SEC.

I qualified what I said by mentioning that he still he still has a lot of Fuente's players. But he's at least been able to sustain what they built, for the most part.

I'd take him over Bert at this point and we're going have a lot of competition this year if we do wind up looking for a new coach.

Meh on Norvell. I would rather have someone who turned a loser into a winner than someone who took over a winner and maintained it like fatass did at Wisconsin.

This x1000!

My #1 trait is a guy who took nothing and turned it into something. Second is recruiting ties. I want a guy from the south. Preferably in Texas and LA, but if he is a Florida /GA guy i can handle that as long as he gets guys with Texas/LA ties.

As much as I hate to admit it, CBB's philosphy of 'man up and play real American football' is just not going to work for us. I really would love for it to, BUT we are just not going to ever be able to have enough men on the lines to 'man up' against most of the other SEC lines. Never. Just a fact of our recruiting base and geography.

If we expect to win, we are usually going to have to do so with less overall talent than most teams we play. We do usually have some pretty decent skill players, but just not the line to help them succeed.

We are going to need a coach that can see the deficiencies that we have, work a scheme around them, and be innovative enough that we are unpredictable and hard to prepare for.

I can't say who that is. Offensively at least, perhaps Leach?

Neal Brown.

Who?

The gent who beat LSU last weekend. He put up a ten win season at Troy last year. Yes, his first year at Troy they sucked, but he can build a winning program.

He is young and he is not, at the moment, the hot name.

His experience is within our footprint and at the highest level. He is worth keeping an eye out for.

Look, we need to go with a young coach who can build something. No established coach is coming here unless Mike Leach gets a wild hare up his arse.

It is a two horse race right now. Norvell and Brown. Young coaches that can build on what we have and will be here for some time and come cheap.

There are no Lou Holtz's out there based on their record. We have to find the next one. I think those two guys could be the ones we need to hire and let develop into an elite coach.

I'd rather take a shot on a guy like this, than try luring an established guy and promising him the moon to come here. Think of the things we could have in Brown's contract in case he can't cut it. You won't be able to do that with an established guy.
