Otis is reporting that Taver will most likely take the Purdue DB job. If not that then he will take something else but the moral of the story according to Otis is that he is leaving.

Sort of saw that coming when it was announced Smith had full coaching duties over the secondary. Left Taver with essentially nothing to do, officially.

He basically got demoted when Smith took over corners as well as safeties. Not really surprising but it sucks. Time to get a good, cheap recruiter to share Smith or Randy's job.

ETA: or hire a pure QB coach

I'm really interested to see what kind of coach we bring in. Given that all defensive positions are covered... maybe the QB coach thing is right.

It may end up being a QB coach, especially with Segrest's special teams background and the fact that all defensive positions are covered.

Moving Lunney might not be the worst idea, though we could probably do better on the open market and he's done a good job with the TE's.

Why not get another defensive coach. I mean the DC duties have to take up some time. Surely he doesn't plan to coach all of the secondary and it's just a temporary title for now in light of Taver leaving.

hell why not hire a coach to strictly recruit and that is all he does

-write letters

Personally I want a coach that can be the entire secondary coach so hopefully the guys can start to trust each other. Our secondary needs that, but I don't know how to feel about the DC having S's and CB's plus X's & O's. That's a lot on the plate.

I would think that still leaves quite the work imbalance. Our defense needs the coaching it's not like we're brining a veteran group of very talented individuals. Most likely we'll be young and athletic but raw. Coaching is needed.

Yeah, plus we have non-coaching staff to do things like evaluate film and write letters. Sure, the coaches do that stuff too, but a lot of it can be delegated to assistants.

Not sure what position they are going to hire another coach to help with when they want all the DB's in one room under Smith. I guess Aaron Henry could fit this description. His recruiting certainly is a question mark being so young.

You nigs know I've been talking that up for a good while.

If it comes to pass, then this board is the most influential segment of the Arkansas fanbase. Jim Lindsey ain't got shite on our foresight and knowledge.

Just got the TCU DB coach to coach our DB's, Clay Jennings.

Been at TCU since 2008 and coaching in Texas since '05. Should have some good connections.
