Voted to remove Rebels as the mascot and Dixie as its fight song.

Another knee jerk reaction that does nothing to solve the real problem, and in fact will further polarize a certain segment of the population.

eh, they'll get over it in a few years. most kids I know these days don't even know about the ASU Indians. Parents seem to forget when they're wearing their faux-nWo shirts too.

Can someone give me some clarification? Are they going the Ole Miss route and keeping the name but changing the on-field mascot, or are they going the ASU route and changing everything?

Press release last night said Rebels all together.
Also removing the band played song, Dixie.
It seems this will go to a public school board meeting before it's actually done. So, not sure if it will actually happen.

Aren't school board members elected?
It's not like 6 random people are making decisions. That's the point of a republic, you elect people who you think are going to do what is in your best interests.

why can't they just change the mascot a bit to not look (assuming it does) like an old white guy with the flag? put a hood on him, give him a little bit of a tan and dark hair and make him look like a badass- that could be a rebel too imo. make him look kinda like this below and keep the name.

i wonder how many rebel schools are left in the state? my old school is one, so i'm grasping for straws just to keep it.
the word rebel isn't (or wasn't) inherently a racist thing so just change it up.
also, the arrow is fine he should represent.
