told y'all almost 2 months ago that Zimmerman would fall on the sword.

Not an upgrade imo.

Maybe Mike has a worse understanding than the fans...Scotty Thurmon's shot was 22 years ago...not last year. Kids don't know him and he has never recruited.

shite.

Love Scotty, but shitty move Mike.

It's a desperation move frankly. Gotta keep the boys getting paid however.

It won't save Mike's arse when Kingsley doesn't return

Keeping Zim on in an administrative roll? If I am Zim it's my chance to get the heck out of Dodge and not be Mikes whipping boy anymore.

Zim might have missed that window, he's been w/ Mike for 14 years.

ehhh.. I like it. Someone who has a deep understanding of our program. If you don't think his contribution to our program won't help on the recruiting trail you are kidding yourself.

The guy is a fricking legend in Arkansas hoops.

I'm not saying he's going to get the one and done players, but those kids that are extremely talented will listen to him.

I'm willing to give him a shot at this point. Hell he can't be a worse recruiter then what we already have out there and he might turn out to be a fairly good coach when all is said and done.

and Mike needed to hire someone that has that? You don't think Mike, TJ, Mayberry or even Kikko knows enough about the history of the program? Mike needs someone to go out and recruit some men.

What difference does that make? Sure the fans know who he is and like him. Kids today have no idea unless they're die hard arkansas fans already.

He is still relatively young. Younger coaches tend connect with recruits easier. There's that.

I like Scotty but he's a pretty dead pan guy. Need some energy on the staff.

Shouldn't we actually let him take a swing at recruiting before we bash his skills?

Point taken, and I cautiously optimistic about the hire. But to me the hire just emphasizes the 'living in the past' attitude we have towards hoops.

The game has changed. 40 minutes of Hell simply can't get a championship with the current rules. We need to accept that basketball is different and adjust accordingly. We need to look forward, not backward.

Exactly! This feels like the same attitude that UCA had when they hired Corliss Williamson and that turned out pretty bad.

Hiring former players seems to be working quite well for Duke

C'mon bro. You know that isn't an apples to oranges scenario. They've had a steady HOF coach since 1980

Again, I'm cautiously optimistic. I think Scotty is well known to kid's parents, but I doubt he's well known to the kids. He could come in and get every 5* we have to offer--great. I'm just saying it seems like we're looking backward at what the game used to be like vs. what it is today.
