I think this hint of a 3-4 defense is a excuse to keep Robb around another year.

it's either that or a good excuse to show robb the door

I could see robb leaving and bert saying robb wanted to continue coaching a 4-3 scheme. so we find someone else to implement the 3-4.

1. Anderson - our offensive line was a horror show, and his matador blocking scheme almost got Austin killed. This hire just looks like one on which Bert simply outsmarted himself.

the thing is if bert really thought our offensive lines problems were coaching issues, he would have shown anderson the door. bert has no problem showing an oline coach the door right after hiring him if it isn't working, see Mike Markuson. our olines problems aren't because of coaching.

it goes back to what's been said here numerous times. we had new guys on the line with a new coach playing against the best dlines in the nation. they had bright spots and terrible spots, which is what everyone expected before the season began. personally I think they'll be even more improved for the bowl as well as next season with more time to gel with anderson's coaching.

Robb ran a 3-4 at Rutgers if my memory serves me right. Could be wrong.

even if he did, it could still be a good excuse to use allowing robb to save face

In fact, he's done the direct opposite and praised the job Anderson did this year.

I think our problems on OL have more to do with our players than coaching. We're pretty good at run blocking when the other team is not run blitzing.

It's a telling state of the situation that no one could beat out Froholdt who was recruited as a DT. I'm thinking our blocking schemes had too steep of a learning curve for our guys this year.

Hopefully both players and coaches figure this shite out in the spring.

I think the talk of the 3-4 means Smith is out the door. I'm a former DC and you don't just up and change philosophy like that. 3-4 requires bringing creative pressure which we all know is not something Robb likes to do. I think he's gone after the bowl game.

I think we will in fact, see some changes on the defensive side of the ball. AFTER the bowl game.

Read between the lines from Berts presser yesterday....

quote:

Bielema on his assistants and other jobs: “If I don’t think it’s a good idea, I’ll tell you. I would much rather be open with my guys. I do think uncharacteristic to years past there will be a lot more (movement nationally) after January 1st.” Bielema says schools have already inquired about some of his assistants, and that happens every year.

quote:

Bielema says the program may be able to add a 10th assistant next season. He said he was recently on an SEC conference call in which the coaches discussed the possibility of passing a rule to elevate form nine to 10 assistants.

If this happens and we don't have a dedicated ST coach I'm gonna be pissed.

Also I'm indifferent on Smith honestly. Wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade but we were all singing his praises the past few years. Not like the guy forgot how to coach all the sudden.

Also you can't coach game speed. Some of the most freakish athlete's I played with just weren't good football players. Not sure a new SC changes anything.

I still believe Smith is a good DC but it just hasn't worked here over the last two years. It is definitely not all his fault but he certainly holds a significant amount of the blame. I just also believe we can get someone better.

With the right players in the right conference, he might be golden.

That having been said, last year we were horrible on defense. This year we were the worst defensive team in modern football history.

The worst in modern football history.

frick him. Who gives s flying frick up a running rat's a-hole what he could do with a good defensive team? He just posted the worst defense we will ever see.

I don't care if he is going to institute a 5-2, 3-3-5, 3-4, or 7-4 defense.

You kidding me?

He had one decent year with 3-4 MAJOR NFL contributors out there. Reggie Herring would have owned with those guys.

It's already been said but do you realize the magnitude of how absolutely shitty we were this year? Did you watch the Mizzou game? Or any of our games?

Which is why I said he has done a bad job this year and should go

Once again, I want him to go. I can still recognized that with the right players he can be a good DC.

Damn, you make a simple post recognizing their is more than one issue and people think you are defending the guy
