Depth is a bigger issue on defense. Having your Offense continually go 3 and out on pass plays and run zero time off the clock doesn't help us a bit.
Depth is an issue at offensive line, QB, WR, and fullback as well. Not having depth on the offensive line prevents us from getting the push necessary to run the ball when we have to late in the game when going up against a solid defensive line like mizzou has. The penalties just further compounded the problem.
As for Allen's injury, does anybody know how many series he ran when he was missing wide open receivers badly? I was thinking it was one or two series and only a handful of plays. If I had to guess the coaches were hoping he could work through it based off of what the medical staff was telling them.

I just hate the hb toss to the same side 5-6 times a game.
Always to the short side of the field. Always.

8 run plays in the 2nd half? if that stat is correct, there's the problem.
Chaney calling mostly pass plays in the 2nd half has cost us 3 games this year.
Its a combination of depth and bad play calling.

Would be willing to trade straight across for a used Paul Chryst, or a brand new Brent Vigen.

Also if Vigen is pronounced "Vee-gan", I'm not sure he would be a fit for this staff.

I don't see it happening but I sincerely hope Coach Bielema does what needs to be done and gets us a decent OC.

So is there actually some reason to run an outside run play to the short side of the field? I see it happen so disproportionately often that I'm thinking it can't be pure chance, that there must be some reason, but I can't think of why. It seems like you'd have more room to run to the edge if you go to the opposite side.

You could just end your sentence there.
That toss play reminds me of the adage about how there are three possible outcomes when you pass and two of them are bad -- the same essentially applies to the toss play. It seems like when we run the toss dive or toss to the edge, it's almost always a fumble, a loss/no gain, or a big run, and it's the epitome of a boom/bust play for us.

We were running the toss into defensive ends who were penetrating up the field.
