Our corners are some of the best 1 on 1 defenders I've seen all year, and I've watched a hell of a lot of college football this year. That squad is legit. Too bad our linebackers couldn't cover a high school team.

Eugene made some plays. Was glad to see it.

He was off because for once our D line got pressure and got their hands up.

His contribution was invaluable with Greenlaw out.

Our corners are really really good against the pass...safeties are awful

It's simply unbelievable that we're still THIS bad nad this thin at LB in Bert yr 4. Ellis might be the worst coverage LB in the conference...I don't know why team should wouldn't run every pass play targeted at him.

Bert has GOT to recruit better LBs, bring out the whores and the cars ...just get em on campus...

In the second half we moved them up closer to the line of scrimmage instead of giving the ten yard cushions we have been giving for the last year and a half... and they did pretty darn good against a very talented Ole Miss team.

We still had some major breakdowns at the LB position in coverage and QB runs which is more then a bit worrisome going into the Auburn game.

From the Ole Miss board...
quote:

No one asked the receivers to pull rabbits out of their hats. They are the strongest unit on the team and we dare teams to take the challenge and play man to man coverage. We feel we will win those battles. The truth is last night we just didn't win those battles.

Pulley and Collins are solid; Pulley is really good.

Pulley is this years Drew Morgan. He wasn't even supposed to play much this year but injuries elevated him to starter. Now he just leads the SEC in both passes defended and broken-up.

A small detail that mattered. Even when we didn't tip passes you could clearly see he had trouble locating the WRs.

He really looked like he was sick or going through some issues.

Not complaining though, i thought we would lose by 14.

What do you mean year 4? This is year 29 going on 30 that we've been extremely thin on that side of the ball. I'm just glad we have SOME talent in spots like the corners, young LBs, and the line; we've gone plenty of years without decent players at ANY spots.

I'm definitely hopeful/excited for our next crop of LBs after Ellis graduates. Eugene and Greenlaw will both be studs that have some experience, and I don't see our corners and Dline regressing any time soon. Just need a safety or two that can ballhawk any lay down some solid tackles and we'll be set.

Linebackers may be one of the most difficult positions to recruit for. They aren't big bruisers like the D Line. They aren't small fast guys like the DBs. They are somewhere in between, just big enough and just fast enough. Fast and big is a rare combo.
