Watching some of these other offenses yesterday, Chaney is a retard.

Maybe I'm just seeing it backwards, but it feels as if we run more of what he thinks we should do rather than what our guys can excel at.

I really like norvell. He made some great playcalls yesterday.

We're not going to start running that type of offense so that guy would be crazy to come here.

If we were to hire a new OC, and I still think Chaney gets retained, it will most likely be someone none of us would ever suspect. How many people had Robb Smith on their radar the day that the job opened up?

I doubt he would come because it seems he is tied to the hip of his HC but I would really like us to pursue the OC at Wyoming. I had a chance to watch them for the first time Friday night and he fits what we want to do perfectly. He has garbage talent to work with at Wyoming presently but he seems to understand the system we want to run and he had a better flow to his play calling in my opinion.

Preach, brother preach! That is Brent Vigen, former OC for the North Dakota State Bison. He helped to win three consecutive titles at NDSU and more importantly the guy seems to have liquid nitrogen in his veins. Watch the NDSU game against Northern Iowa from a year or two ago.

After some special teams miscues NDSU was down ten or so going into the 4th quarter. Mind you, both teams are ranked in the top five of FCS and are conference opponents, so it is a high stakes game. He doesn't panic. He doesn't go pass happy. He doesn't abandon the game plan. They run their offense, dominate the 4th, and win to set up their run to the Natty that year.

Man I'm in love with the guy now.

Seriously though, he seemed legit. He's a QB coach too who has had a lot of success with his QB's at that level. Obviously, its not a guarantee that it would translate to the SEC but at least he has a history coaching the position.

I just loved his passing concepts too. He ran virtually the same formation as us but much different route combos on both play action and from shotgun.

He ran this play from Shotgun that sold me on him. The Wyoming QB had his eyes on the deep routes at then snap and then when nothing was there he scanned back across the field and hit the WR coming across in the levels concept. It was such a great play that I'm not sure I've ever seen us do under Chaney. Obviously there wasn't enough vertical in this play and too much horizontal.

From the little I see of the Bama/LSU game, Henry and Derby should have a career day against LSU's defense, now will Chaney actually use these two?

Doubtful.

What impressed me about him, other then the whole balls of steel thing... his QBs are very efficient. They may not put up 500 yards but they make the throw they need to make when they need to make them.

That means he spends a good deal of time working with his QBs on hitting the open man, not the first target. With our offense you need a system that preaches if the first one isn't there go through your progression... someone will be. Just like you said, the home run is not there, don't panic, it probably means a good solid double or single is there.

You may not pick up the first down on that throw. It happens. But if you hit the open man often enough then the first downs will come.

Does he have SEC level experience? No, but how often does a great OC with SEC level experience pop up on the free market?

We aren't going Air Raid with Coach B. If we are going ball control offense, and we have seen how we can make games very tight with that, we need an OC who knows how to make every play count.

ETA: Agreed Dale, our TEs should put up monster numbers against LSU but I doubt they will.
