I have heard great things about the new Indian place - R&R Curry

So I guess HogHaus is closing until August to completely renovate the place.
Ownership is going from a partnership to a single owner who is spending $400,000 to gut the place in time for students to move back. I really think you have to be an idiot not to make money with a location like that
As an attendee at HH for many Fridays after class, I welcome this news. The boarded up windows didn't exactly give off the best vibe. Also cutting down on the menu to items "they can execute well". Man, I couldn't've said it any better. Their old menu blows and has the most nonsensical shite on it.
I'm always down for a fat boy blue though. Hope they don't get rid of that

Went to Hog Haus for lunch a couple months back. Was horrible for the most part. Tables, floor, and glassware were dirty. Food was lackluster, service was pitiful for there only being one other table besides ours.
The place is ran by lesbians that have had a relationship split. One took over Hog Haus and the other took over Common Grounds from what I've learned.
It should be the premier spot in Fayetteville. There's no way a complete renovation can be done in time. Were they still brewing their own beer on site?
I didn't even bother to ask when I was in there, it didn't appear that the staff would have known the answer anyway.
Also, Burrito Loco has priced themselves off my list. Price has overtaken quality. $1.69 for a street taco is just a bit much

Back when Hog Haus was Ozark Brewing Company under Gilliam were the days. About 10 of my friends bartended and waited there. As long as I drank draft beer, I could go in and drink all night for the price of one beer. Of course, that's probably why it went under in that incarnation.
A lot of the guys that worked there back in the day have their own joints now as well. It was really a great social scene. Right down the street from Chester's, so we'd bow out and hit happy hour. Come back and drink until the show started, then head back over to Chester's for whatever show was going on. Those were the days.
I never go there anymore, though.

Rumor is that there are also some tax issues. The long ugly breakup between the two owners left HH in the incapable hands of the staff for the last few years. I will be surprised if it makes it.

Also, no way in hell Hog Haus reopens Aug 1. The outside still looks like shite. Haven't fixed the window or the hole in the side of the bundling.

They had a contractor cleaning the outside vents from the kitchen Wednesday.

Drove out to Decatur for that community BBQ thing. Didn't stop, wasn't the big community event I was hoping. Just a ton of inflatables for the kids and some food vendors.
I kept driving and ended up going through Jay and Grove, (really wanted to get on the water, may end up hitting Tenkiller w/ the fam tomorrow) I took 43 up to Joplin. 43's a fun little road for driving enthusiasts. I had not been to Joplin in probably 10-12 years. My friends in Joplin kinda scattered, and Joplin is well, Joplin. I'm not banging MSSU cheerleaders anymore so there's not been much reason to go there.
The area that the tornado destroyed is kinda surreal. There's been a lot of rebuilding. It just seems very out of place. Joplin's a fairly old town so you go from an area of post WWII homes into what feels like a Southern California suburb, the trees disappear, the locally owned unique stores all become national chains and strip mall developments, then you hit downtown and it's all unique and interesting again.
Joplin's downtown is pretty cool. NWA's cities are pretty drab. There is nothing inspiring about Bentonville outside of the square and that's losing its luster. NWA is just strip mall after strip mall after strip mall then big box store and national chains and more strip mall and strip mall.
I'm inspired by the rural areas and small towns of Northern Arkansas far more than the betatropolis that NWA is becoming. I put in about 8 hours of drive time just weaving around OK, MO, AR didn't really hit any traffic until I got to the light right before Bella Vista, then it was traffic and slow arse out of state drivers until I got home.
Many of the things we used to tell people why NWA was awesome just isn't that way anymore. I need NWA to be more interesting than finally getting a What-a-burger and Rasing Cane's.
I suggest Joplin for a day trip, lots of little one off restaurants and bars, shops, and wholesale outlets. They have some neat city parks and there's a handful of casino's closeby too if that's your thing. The women however seem to have a 37:1 ratio for pounds to teeth.
Oh and the only place I saw road construction was in NWA. Everywhere else already had their shite done.

Walton Family Foundation Announces Design Excellence Program Jul 29, 2015 9:54
The Walton Family Foundation today unveiled a plan that will elevate the quality of architectural and landscape design in Arkansas' Benton and Washington counties. The new initiative, named the Northwest Arkansas Design Excellence Program, will promote the highest level of design in the development of future public buildings and spaces. "The establishment of a design excellence program in Northwest Arkansas was driven by our strategic approach to preserve our region's sense of place," said Karen Minkel, Home Region program director at the Walton Family Foundation. "Over the last 25 years, the population in Northwest Arkansas has more than doubled, creating opportunities and challenges in planning and design. The Northwest Arkansas Design Excellence Program will encourage quality design of public spaces, while complementing the rich architectural history of our urban fabric." Through this program, the Walton Family Foundation will provide financial support to entities such as school districts; county, state or local municipalities; and nonprofit organizations that intend to develop space for public purposes. Funds will be earmarked for all phases of design work. The first phase of the program will involve the selection of world-class designers who would be considered for future projects as announced. Local, national and international designers will have the opportunity to submit their work for review by a panel of distinguished design professionals and educators. Designers interested in the program are able to apply until September 16.
