Food's always a popular topic and one of the first thing that visitors will ask about a place.

Shall we do a thread about the what's to do and where's to go?

I'm currently at El Nuevo Progresso in Springdale. Holy hell it's good. Flame grilled chicken similar to what you might find at the Pollo Loco chain that is very popular on the West Coast. It's also a Bakery. A Mexican co-worker brought a Tres Leches cake in last week for a celebration we had. I had never had one and they're kinda awesome! Their building is really clean on the inside too.

I got the 1/2 chicken meal. Literally half a chicken and grilled up and delicious. Came w/ rice and beans and a huge bowl of this crazy green salsa and about 15 steaming hot tortillas wrapped in foil. There's been a steady stream of messicans coming into get baked goods and tacos to go. Food comes out pretty quick and the chica working is super nice.

I like going to hope in the wall ethnic places because you usually get awesome deals and the food is typically legit as hell. It's not a fancy place but it is well worth coming to Springdale.

Eta: 1/2 chicken meal was $6.55. Tres Leches Cake was $18.

I kind of like the Tilted Kilt myself. LINK

The food is ok but you know it's mainly about the atmosphere and such.

El Burrito Loco makes a good torta.

But Mango's does a torta ahogada that is awesome. It's also super messy, so be careful if eating in car during workday.

I prefer Foghorns myself.
No Messicans, great Happy Hour and a shite ton of TV's.
Foghorns 4 coming to Walnut St. in the fall.

This plus a tres leches cake was one of the best take out meals I've ever had. Took a while for them to make but worth it

I had my first true Torta when I was out at my office in Midland Texas a few months back.

It was a Mexican Bakery. True Mexicans and shite. I had the brisket torta. They also had a jaw bone meat torta. I passed on that.

So now, I compare every Mexican place to that. shite was good and maybe the best Tacos I've ever had. Every time I go back to our office there, I go to Martinez Bakery.

The Torta

Do we need a separate local beer thread or does this one count?

Those do look good. That being said, I can assure you that NWA is not lacking in the "true Mexicans" department. ;)

Angela's Panaderia on Old Missouri in Springdale is excellent if you're needing a Mexican bakery. I went and picked up bulillos for tortas there this week. They also make a mean tres leches cake, though that much dairy kills my stomach.

That's a shame. I'm there weekly but havent eaten yet. Picked up a sixer yesterday to share with family in Florida next week. Taking a sixer of Ozark APA as well.

It's kind of a sad state of affairs when some the most interesting food in Fayetteville is coming out of a glorified coffeehouse, and I'm talking about Arsaga's Depot.

I honestly think that they put out some of the more unique food in town. I'm not saying it's the best food, but I always think it's interesting at least. Too many places in Fayetteville just seem so basic these days.

I haven't been to the new location. I tried the old one in the plaza not too long after it opened, and it was OK. I told myself I'd give it another try, and when I went back, they re-did the menu and upped their game about a thousand percent. I hope they stay around for a long time.

Their new location is in the old Cafe Santa Fe spot off the Square.

If you're old enough to remember, that means they now have a sweet bar in the middle and are now doing a happy hour special every day and they've got the upstairs seating areas to do some really fun stuff.

Hoffbrau, Cafe Santa Fe, OPO while drinking w/ Hog OLinemen led to one of my drunk crashes back in the day.
