We are only 5 hours from Dallas if this thing starts to spread. How much of our student population are directly from the Dallas area? A crap ton is the answer. It would only take a few students to get it and come back up here and we are in trouble.

We'll a crap ton is one of the ways the virus transmits.
Our sissy govt screwed up big time by allowing flights from the hotspot.

The cities that rely on public transportation are where this thing gets out of hand.
NYC? I'd give it about a week before 100,000 people got infected if an Ebola carrier happened to sneeze in a rush hour subway car.

and the major hubs-like DFW. That I fly out of all of the time with work.
Fingers crossed my 2nd interview goes well tomorrow with another company, b/c I will only be in north texas if so. At least I won't spread it to you guys?

frick guys ebola isnt like the goddamn flu or measles. It spreads much more similarly to the way aids does. And plus it has an incubation period of 21 days so no 100k would not be infected from one infected host in a week. Jesus christ.

Settle down, Mr Outrage.

Calm down. Geeze.
And think real hard about the nurses here that contracted it, k.
Either way.... relax. It's ok.

It's delayed symptoms that is what is most concerncing to me. You could have it and not even know. Flu season is right around the corner and symptoms are close to that of the flu.

It's just frustrating seeing so many people in the US freaking out about ebola for no reason when it's not even the virus that we should be most worried about right now. It does not spread easily in industrialized societies. There's a reason every outbreak outside of Africa has been shot down fairly quickly. It's just catering to the fear mongering that NBC, Fox and CNN are profiting off of right now.

I worry about influenza and entero WAY more. Especially entero since I have a newborn.
That said...Presby was NOT prepared for Ebola and what we are seeing now is the result of that. Unfortunately, more staff could have contracted it (per presby) and they possibly have families, etc... It's not something to totally brush off if you LIVE HERE.

we keep hearing that it isn't airborned and that it is difficult to catch.
Yet... everyday more and more are being infected, yes... in small numbers but still it is here now.
The CDC report isn't great for sure. Not enough money to actually stop it at this point, has been budgeted.
I am not becoming lunatic fringe by any means, but it is a consideration when traveling to larger metro areas, or attending activities with tons of folks.

Not so fast? Ebola transmittable by air according to new report
Hopefully these people don't know anything, because it SOUNDS like someone sneezing in my face on the subway would be a problem.
quote:
Although CIDRAP acknowledges that they were “first skeptical that Ebola virus could be an aerosol-transmissible disease,” they are “now persuaded by a review of experimental and epidemiologic data that this might be an important feature of disease transmission, particularly in healthcare settings.”

Here's my issue. Presby and the CDC failed. Big time. The CDC should have been here asap and transported him to GA or Nebraska where they have the proper facilities for this. There is no way around that and whenever the dick head with the hospital said that he wants this hospital to be designated as one to host I nearly lost it.
The CDC fricked up.
and now my rant is over.
