After the way Nutt was fired or resigned, blah, blah, blah.

Then the Petrino fiasco, and then Smile's clown show.

The hiring of CBB was the hiring of an up and comer that had faired well in the weak Big 1G. Not a bad hire at the time, but looks to be a terrible fit in the SEC.

Be honest, who would come to the UofA with a legit chance to compete in the SEC West.

10 years, 2 seasons of success, the rest suckage.

We don't need the third coming of Bear Bryant. We just need someone who will keep us steadily winning our OoC games and 4 or 5 of 8 conference games. If we can hold that to a bar standard, we win the SEC or come damn close in years like this and last year.

I just want to end the season ranked again. I want to experience 10–3 and 11–2 a couple times a decade. I want to feel like we're a threat in most or every game, and still be in contention for the SEC over halfway through the season, instead of the abundant clarity that our team is shite the first or second game. I don't care what anyone says, this is a realistic expectation, and I believe over a dozen active and attainable coaches could do it starting next year if we just went out and made a smart hire. Did we make a dumb hire instead? Hey, no worries. These things happen. Let's just not give him a ridiculous contract and cut him loose as soon as it's looking like it won't work out, like any other program that inspires to be competitive would do. I hear people say to be successful at Arkansas, you have to minimize mistakes and be smart. That goes for on and off the field.

Legit list after the Nutt, Petrino, Smile and Bert debacle.

1-5 that would legit come if Jeff called.

I think we need to examine ourselves as fans and expectations.

Jeff wanted Grobe, LOL. Got Bert, LOL

We are Arkansas, we love the Hogs.
That why we donate and spend the $$$.

Let's temper our expectations and pray that we get a coach that will fill up the stadium that JL and tSEC built.

Go Hogs!

He hired Mike and Bobby, and Bert. Bobby was a good hire but liked young poon, that got his arse fired.

Bert had a resume, but isn't a D1 coach.

Take the Nebraska job Jeff, not sure that the PTB could hire the right football coach.

We have to take a shot at a young guy that we think has the stuff to build a team and maintain a program. Whomever it is, make it clear that when signs point to the job being too big for him, we'll cut him loose.

Give him tremendous incentives to succeed (within the rules) and to stay. Planned raises through the first 3 years, to bring him up to the average SEC HC within the first 3 or 4 years. Some young coach who can cut it would take it and run.

After Saban retires it's going to turn into the wild wild West. Hopefully on January 9th.

Who wants to coach against Rumlin, Ogre, and Gussy every year?

You do?? O, and you? You too??

And seriously, what hotshit coach is going to drop their school to go coach at ALABAMA? Honestly. It seems like it would take a special kind of guy to shack up with gump city. It's a liiitle hard to picture Chip Kelly in an alabama polo.

You don't have to picture it since Dabo Swinney is going to take over for him.

Who goes to Clemson?
Then who takes their spot?

I bleed razorback red but this is the 30th best job in the nation, and Bert leaving a good situation at wiscy shows the risk involved with leaving a good situation

Financially it's more like a top 15 job.

A coach can make good money here. Fan support is very strong.
We need a young innovative guy to level the playing field of our deficiencies in recruiting.

What?

LINK /

We can and would pay top 5-10 money for the right guy..

Go get Charlie Strong. Dude deserves another chance and probably could transition well with Bert's snowflake recruits.

if by the logic that salary = wins, top 10 still puts us 5th in the division, and experienced coaches know we will fire someone for that, which is why we will be better off with a young up and comer trying to get rich through work ethic

I think money aside, you have to be smart about who you hire from a philosophical standpoint.

1. What's the culture of your program, and does it need to be changed (yes)?

2. Which way does your recruiting footprint lean in terms of the athletes it consistently produces?

3. Are you set up to win early or are you asking the new coach to rebuild the program?

In terms of #2, I think that's really where Long zigged with Bielema when he should have zagged. Our state does't consistently produce enough talent along the lines for us to be a power football team predicated on line play. However, we have and do produce and decent number of skill position players in order to run a more spread-like system.

Ranking wise we've recruited a ton of good line players.

None of them have produced though so go figure. Recruiting miss? Coaching miss? Whats the deal with all those high end recruits sitting on the bench.

We've got 3 starting D lineman in the NFL right now..
