We have no depth on defense. Ellis and Greenlaw are all we have at LB right now. Our secondary depth is questionable at best. If you're playing a true freshman and playing a walk on who just got a scholly this season, you've likely got issues...and we do.

I love Ellis because he is a hometown kid, but we had some depth at LB last season and we had the option to not play him against passing teams(spread). He is terrible at pass coverage. Love the kid, hate that part of his game.

I'm sure Bert and Enos got bashed on here last night, but I was fine with all decisions....

4th and a half yard...tried to catch the defense sleeping...Petrino did that and was called a "genius" and Bert and Enos called the same thing. Just didn't work out.

I liked setting up for a FG at the end. Passes if incomplete stop the clock and let State conserve their timeouts for a final drive. A college team should be able to execute a 20 yard field goal. While Allen was very hot, it's just too risky to throw the ball. If he throws a pick, everyone is mad about not just taking the FG in that situation.

Also, it was cold and it was a bad decision on my part to sit in our Pig Heaven seats.

Watching Dak abuse us at will whenever and wherever he wanted gave me heart burn.

Scoring 50 points should win any game IMO. Ah well. Onto Mizzou.

Oh and we're not Auburn. Happy Thanksgiving to that.

With the way our defense was playing, giving them the ball back with a minute and a timeout we would have lost anyway.

Our LBs are not good in pass defense. Should have just blitzed Ellis every time because he can't cover anyone in man and his zone defense is awful.

I watched him all night chase down the wrong guy in coverage. It was terrible. He is terrible.

We've gotta find some 220-230 LBs who have speed and can cover. We face more spread teams now. The days of a 235-250 LB being a big need are gone.

I think people don't realize how good Dak is because he plays for Mississippi State. If he plays at a traditional power, he's the Heisman front runner right now.

Guy is nails. I knew it would be hard on defense, but I didn't think our secondary would look THAT bad.

They've got some big WRs as well. Matchup nightmares for 5'10" or so DBs.

Yep, as good as he is with his legs, he set a school record last night for passing yards and touchdowns. He's a first round talent.

Thank you. My friends think I've just a got a pure hatred for Fayetteville kids but it's really just that Bert talks him up but even with my limited football knowledge I could easily spot his deficiencies early in his career should clue somebody in that the dude just isn't a SEC level player and the D is gonna have issues if him and Kevin Richardson are the ones leading it.

Except defense.

We have no imagination on defense.

I 'm starting to wonder if Shannon was the main contributor to figuring out adjustment, stunts, and new wrinkles in the defense last year.

No imagination?

What do you want when your DBs can't play man, your LBs can't cover the middle of the field?

The lack of talent at LB and at DB limits what you can call, stunt wise up front.

We don't have enough talent on the back end to be dialing up crazy blitzes. A QB like Dak would hit you for a HR every time.

bullshite.

On 3rd down try a 3 down linemen front and drop 8 in coverage.

Drop a DE back into coverage to try and stop the slant route.

Run twist with your D-line more (was very effective last year.)

Walk both linebackers up to the line, stand your DE's up and mix it up on who is rushing.

Walk a linebacker up to the line and then twist him with a DT or DE when you rush.

When you do blitz take a chance and attack the quick underneath routes.

Just dropping into a deep soft zone shell is not gonna work against the spread teams that live on screens and underneath routes. We are playing right into their wheelhouse.

What is bullshite?

We have no talent at LB and not enough speed an experience in the back end.

When #30 and #10 are on the field, that means there is no depth.

No depth in the back 7 limits what a DC can do. Period.

There is no bullshite in that.

You can attempt to run stunts with your Dline...pinching, slanting, etc...but when you have a QB that is mobile, you then give him the edge and you cannot create a pocket to keep him in. We ran slant stunts and pinched against Chad Kelly...he ran for 110 yards.

bullshite that you can't try something different.

What's it gonna hurt?

We just gave up over 600 yards of offense and 51 points at home.

Exactly. They scored every time they touched the ball. Ok, maybe ONE punt. Even with a lack of talent, that's pathetic. It's not like MSU is some offensive juggernaut. Oh well, I guess one bad game for the D isn't that bad. It's not like we give up 50 pts in multiple games.

No shite - our d sucked. Is anyone arguing against that?

One regular season game left, it is what it is at this point.

What do you do besides hope like hell there is major improvement by next season?

I agree we have a lack of talent and depth.

It just seems that we are over-compensating for it.
