Man, I have to admit I am off the Mike bandwagon. My problem with Mike is that it doesn't look like he can sustain a program. With the 2015 class being a fricking disaster we will probably be underhanded again when all of these jucos either don't pan out or move on. We can't reload every year with a fresh batch of McDonald's AA's so we need some fricking backbone to our program.

Also, I don't like how the team won't make adjustments. It's actually his fricking philosophy. He states that we don't worry about what the other team does, we worry about what we're doing. Meaning they will play the same way no matter who the opponent is. That's all great until you run into a team that has excellent ball handling and 3 point shooting, but you continually press and HELP OFF THE frickING SHOOTERS to double team a fricking center at the elbow that averages a absolutely terrifying 2 ppg. It doesn't matter if the shooter has hit 6 threes in a row, no let's leave him to trap a turd with downs in hopes that we might possibly get a turno..OOPS THEY frickING SCORED AGAIN. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? A THREE POINTER. We don't fricking block out. Our offense consists of "you guys go do something offensivy-ish". Those are things that will always be present in a Mike Anderson coached team.

They're fun to watch when everything is rolling, and they can overcome those deficiencies when they have a senior laden team, but with his recruiting and retention problems we just can't sustain any amount of success under Anderson.

Whitt transferring isn't that big of a loss

Yes it is.

Transfers in basketball are a huge thing. You lose so much that has been invested, not to mention the opportunity costs associated with having filled that scholarship spot with a first round pick one and done if you can get them, or hopefully a player of equal quality that would still be in the program and might have contributed more on the floor than the player that's transferring out.

Transfers can be absorbed easier in football and baseball where the numbers game gives you more cushion. In hoops you've got to be on point with your scholarship allocation and player evaluation. Any single scholarship slot is basically 8.5% of your total assets. Any balance sheet that gets 8.5% wiped out is gonna look rough, now combine that with a prior year 8.5% transferred off the books, and 22% (portis) and 12% (qualls) also lost from your assets and replaced with 1.5% (kouassi), -5% (kapita), 1% (doobie), -8% (jacorey) and addition incoming transfers that have zero ROI for a year and are a net loss on your roster balance sheet for a full year -8.5% (thomas) and depreciating assets like Anton Beard and Trey Thompson -10% and -3% respectfully.

You'll see that Mike is nearly bankrupt and Arkansas citizens are footing the bail-out (JUCOS) overpaying for goods with artificially inflated valued.

The JUCOs and transfers are leveraged assets that are in fact debt, Mike got really lucky that Dusty Hannahs turned out as good as he was except for in the clutch situations.

I just can't see Mike and his lazy band of merry men working hard enough to dig themselves out the hole they created.

Can the Mike defenders choose a side please?

Either Whitt is good and this is an important loss

Or

Whitt sucks and this is no big loss. In which case I ask why the hell did we recruit him in the first place

Either way, answer is the same. Arkansas basketball sucks. Mike sucks

Whitt wasn't ready this year, but had potential to help next year. It's a loss, but will be negated somewhat by the incoming guards. It does hurt with the depth.

He's right, I liked Whitt and his potential, but he was very very raw with an ugly as can be shot. He was still another full year away from being any kind of big contributor and probably why he left.

Barford has had as many as 10 NBA scouts at his JUCO games late this season, he is extremely talented and I don't think Whitt would ever get to his level and would ride the pine the next 2 years.

I don't blame Whitt for wanting to play, he knows he was going to be about 5th on the guard depth chart next year.

Time to move on.

Make the tournament next year or bye Mike, simple as that. I don't think Whitt changes much for next year personally.

We're not making the tournament this year. We just lost these players off a team that wasn't even close to making the tourney:

Bell 15.7 ppg
Durham 6.2 ppg 6.4 apg
Whitt 6.1 ppg

Jucos have to replace that production just to be as shitty as we were this season

Oh and after we don't make the tournament next year, we sure as shite won't make it the year after that when we won't have Hannahs or Kingsley.

And after that year there won't be a single player on the roster that is on the team today.

0 signed from 2015 class. Only Jucos signed from this class

We're fricked and no end in sight. Mike can GTFO.

My main concern is the pure numbers game. We run a high pace pressure game that requires a deep bench to execute. Do we have the warm bodies on the bench that can play at this level to even think about running that system right now?

The 3 JUCOs we have coming in could be awesome but without support will they be able to last an entire season at the pace we play at?

I think Mike is an example of someone who has more job security than he should so doesn't make the extra effort. He proved at UAB and Mizzou he could coach but here it's like he's just content to go the easy route.

Speaking of, we also lost Kouassi and Miles to graduation.

Mike deserves a majority of the criticism he gets but he isn't going anywhere until at least next season. Just seems kind of pointless to get to worked up about it.

Watch out- you'll get pelted for not bitching, must mean you love mike and want him to have a lifetime contract.

At this rate I'm tempted to see if I can land a walk on spot.

People act like we're the only mid level program that ever loses players to transfers.

Meanwhile about an hour ago Justin Coleman of Bama announced he is transferring and he was their highest rated recruit in years...

It happens.

I disagree, I think the team has a decent shot at making the tournament, and a better shot than the team this year.

Beard
Hannahs
Thomas
Kingsley
Thompson
Barford
Macon
Cook
Watkins
Jenkins

if you think the bama basketball program is a mid level program you are out of your mind.

They've made the big dance 20 times in their program history. They're a bottom tier power 5 university for basketball.
