Jeff Long leaving/getting fired right now would be a catastrophe

If Long takes the Nebraska AD position or he is fired, it really puts us in a bad position regarding our head football coach.
First, if Bret is let go then Arkansas is searching for an AD and a head football coach.
Second, we would have no AD to hire a new football coach. This leaves it in the hands of some folks who were part of the "GOBN" that most of us hated so much when Houston Nutt was here.
Third, what coach worth his salt is going to go to a program with no active AD?
So I ask...those of you who want Long gone...is losing Long worth having to keep Bret another season or having this next hire screwed up?
I question many things about Long, but I want him to stay here at least for the next hire just for the sake of stability within the athletic program. The man has some how pissed off many donors but has continued to bring in top $$ for facility improvements across the board. I would also like him to see through the finishing of the football stadium expansion.

If Long is ousted it will mean that Gus Malzahn will be the next coach and that Arkansas will never again be relevant in football.

I don't see JL leaving before the NEZ is finished. He's not a quitter and I think we pony up the $$$$ to keep him.
It would be catastrophic to lose JL at this point.
All of the BM donors that I know that proudly have their Fire Jeff Long bumper stickers are arse hurt because of tailgating. They donate the big $$$$ and think they are privileged to be able to do what they want and where they want. JL stuck a fork in their steak and now he has to go.
Now with the NEZ expansion the tailgating in 44 has been cut back to certain donors, pissing contest.
The GOBN can't get back together Jeff has made that impossible.
For Christ's sake they want Skip Holtz here.

This is what I worry about, and one of the main reasons I don't want Long gone. It's a lose lose situation, with the worst scenario being that Long leaves and we have no AD to cut the cord with Bert and lead a coaching search. Chances are that Bert remains for the 2018 season, we hire Long's replacement, Bert knows he's a lame duck, and the bottom falls out of our football program.
Either way, if Long leaves, the GOBN likely orchestrates the hire of someone like Butch, Gus or Tuberville because our big donors don't know jack shite about football and are stuck in the 1990s.

Jeff Long (Arkansas) and Rob Mullens (Oregon) are two primary names in #Nebraska AD search this morning.

I'm hoping the newly leaked contract details got many off the "fire Long" bus.
I honestly think he's a great AD.

Bill Moos, the former Washington State AD, had now been named the Nebraska AD.

This is why the place is so much better than hogville. I was trying to explain this and they just couldn't comprehend it and thought I was out of my mind.
I'm indifferent on long. I do know we need him here after the Missouri game though.
It's a no brainer that when the heat was starting to get to long last week that the article about the actual buyout numbers came out.

Yeah, I'm pretty ambivalent on Long but we need some stability during the coaching transition. I do have some faith in Long to make a good hire too.

Ditto. I'm not a big fan of his, but I'm also not one of those people who is distrustful of his ability to hire the next football coach.
People bring up Grobe and Bowden, but his last three (non-interim) major sport hires have been the coach of the Atlanta Falcons, the 3x Big Ten winning coach of the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Elite Eight coach of the Missouri Tigers.

You've gotta look at the softball hire and soccer. Those programs are on the uptick as well.
I don't hate the man, but I do hate Pepsi and the change in concession vendors has been downright atrocious.
