Is there no one better than Froholdt?

Everything I've heard about him is that he's a great kid and a hardworker, so it's nothing personal. However, his pass blocking fundamentals aren't just lacking they are almost non existent. He might be our best run blocking guard at the moment but his pass protection is obviously 3 months old. We really need someone with more experience who knows how to punch and use leverage . Hope he proves me wrong and becomes an awesome pass blocker at some point, but for right now we need someone else.

Unfortunately it is starting to look like we might not have that player on the roster this year. We bought into the hype that Pittman was a master recruiter and that O Linemen would flock to Fayetteville to play for Bielema.
Well, it turns out that everyone recruits O Linemen like crazy now and Pittman has been exposed here and at Georgia for producing lines that have tremendous difficulties in certain situations.
We are going to have to recruit our way out of this hole and hope that Froholdt learns quickly on the job.

If there was, he'd still be on the dline.
Long should sue Pittman for theft by deceit.

Brett says no, there's not. By a long shot.

To be fair, we actually have recruited pretty well on paper on the OL. What's bit us in the arse is the fact that our OL signees aren't getting developed properly and/or busting out altogether.
Guys like Merrick, Wallace, Kirkland and Ragnow were all 4 stars and had multiple offers from great programs. Reeve Koehler was a 4 star. John McClure (2013 class) was a two time JUCO All-American and the #5 junior college guard in the country.
Ragnow and Kirkland were the only ones who panned out and were as good as advertised. Merrick and Wallace are works in progress and may not pay off until they're upperclassmen, if at all. Koehler and McClure never saw the field.
Not to go chicken little, but when your supposed positional strongpoint is offensive line and you're starting a graduate transfer and a converted DT, that's a legitimate problem.
ETA -- also, not to be in full FML mode, but we're in a similar situation with our linebacker recruiting and attrition and/or lack of development.
- In 2013 we signed Ellis, Spaight and Myke Tavarres. We got one good year out of Spaight, Ellis has been a reliable if unremarkable player for 4 years, and Tavarres busted out.
- In 2014 we signed Dwayne Eugene, Josh Williams, and Randy Ramsey. Eugene and Williams are marginal plug-and-play guys, and Ramsey was in and out of trouble and is now a rush DE. If you want to count Khalia Hackett (signed as a DB), he doesn't help the case, either.
- In 2015 we signed Greenlaw, Derrick Graham and Kendrick Jackson. Graham converted to DE and is now gone, and Jackson was a near immediate convert to FB and now splits time with Hayden Johnson, Cantrell, and Walker when we're in 20 personnel packages. Greenlaw has been a very solid player.
Of those guys, we got a 4 year starter who can be a liability at times, a very solid young player, a one year wonder, a few projects and marginal backups, a few position switches, and a few washouts.
Simply put, we're crapping the bed at two key positions where talent depth are desperately needed in order to compete in the SEC.

Too true, and with our style of defense we have to have solid Linebacker play. It might be time to consider shaking up the coaching staff a bit.

I tend to agree. It seems we have regressed in terms of fundamentals such as tackling. I think a good portion of it has to do with the player but so many players try to grab high and tackle.

I really like the personality makeup of our staff but I am thinking this is definitely needed. The only group that looks to be improved this year is our CB's. Everyone else on the defense seems to be status quo or has regressed. Not what I was expecting from so many returning starters.

Yeah he's the only one I would absolutely want us to keep. Turn the defense over to him and let's see what kind of staff he can build out on that side.

If the Ole Miss game goes poorly than I hope we give him a chance. I think he is going to get an opportunity somewhere else if we don't promote him anyway.
The funny thing is we don't even need a good defense, just a mediocre one at this point.

Tackling gets sloppy as players are forced out of position and don't get any rest.
When you literally don't have anyone semi competant to sub in, players don't have to play outstanding.
As for the danish/dutch/viking kid, he is so out of position off the line it is sad. He's like Chunk from the goonies. Just a giant freak with no direction out there. When he actually does make contact, he rarely gets beat by his man.
Unfortunately there's times when he just fires off the ball to his assigned area, and doens't seem to recognize the defender has already sidestepped him. It's like a receiver that just runs routes and refuses to run to get open.

I think the kid is over aggressive at times, which relates to being a DL player.
If he can overcome that quickly and get better at his footwork he can be a good OL player.
It's sad that Pittman missed on and under valued players like Wallace and Merrick. Can they be good players on the OL? Maybe, but I trust the coaches that they have the best O Lineman on the field at this point.
Frick that fat tub of lard Sam Pittman, I hope he continues the epic fail at Jawja!

We paid Bielema and Pittman how much for the 3.5 years prior to this season? And this is what we have to show on the offensive line? fricking joke.
