Is Michael Qualls still not "LSU Caliber"?

I remember when we signed him LSU fans were telling us all about how we reached on him and he'll be no more than a bench player by year 3 and that he was not up to LSU Basketball standards.
This would be a good topic for tRant.

He's been my favorite player since about his 5th or 6th game where had a couple monster dunks. I knew right then that he'd be the heart and soul of our team in a few years.

He and glenn bryant would have been excellent bash bros.

Nobody that Arkansas ever got out of Louisiana in any sport ever had a committable offer from LSU, or for the biggest part, even any interest from them. Barely knew their names.
That list includes Joe Ferguson, Anthony Lucas, Qualls...

Trent Johnson could very well be considered one of the best LSU coaches ever (top 2) if he can survive the current obstacles.
There is a reason he has been coach of the year in more than one conference.
Nevertheless, he didn't get the in-state players he needed to get.
Derenbrecker, despite what anyone says is a big loss. Not neccessarily because of talent, but skills are contagious; and having serious athletes surrounding players like Derenbrecker (AS A SENIOR) is how your win. Think Don Redden old folks.
I know Trent simply let the teamn play through some of their beatings last year.
Players don't truly work on their weaknessess until they get their arse beat because of them.
Immidiately after a season ends, a coach will finally see his players working with their left handed lay-ups, free-throws, dribbling skills, ect. I know Hickey is on the way, but watch how much better last year's PG will handle the ball. These kids weaknesses aren't exposed in high school.
As long as coaches are yelling at players- you suck. Once players are yelling at players- you have seniors and you probably win.
Look, he intentionally took one on the chin and rebuilt with freshman. But that was two years ago. Last year the team started 3 freshman, despite two not being ready, and we couldnt overcome it. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO BETTER LAST YEAR; BUT HIS PG CALCULATION WERE WRONG Derenbrecker needed a year of weights and our PG wasn't one yet.
This years talented and deep frontcourt will turn things around. We are unquestionably better at
Center (added one, and gained experience)
Power Forward (added one, and gained experience)
Small Forward (gained experience, lost one)
Point Guard (added one, gained experience)
Give Trent time. He isn't a great recruiter. In today's basketball landscape that might be good. BEWARE OF A COACH WHO CAN RECRUIT
Tis better to have a program that does it for you.
Last year's team didn't establish that, I think it will change.
go Trent

Any of you guys see Michael Qualls play? He's visiting Arkansas this weekend and claims he has an offer(news to me)
I've seen him play. I wish LSU would offer him. He's an awesome athlete, very raw. I think he is similar to LSU freshman John Isaac, but not as thick. More of a slasher.
I think he would be a good get for a program that didn't need immediate help and could bring him along and let him develop. I think he could be a good one in a couple of years.

we were actually talking about him in a thread the other day. i'm with bubba, wish we'd offer him. super athlete. if he could come in and develop and maybe even redshirt a la garrett temple. one of the biggest in state sleepers. i think he'll be good down the line. feel the same way about shawn long who signed with miss. state though i can see why we didn't offer.

Thanks guys, he'll be at our version of "Midnight Madness" at 7PM. Qualls actually said he could commit to Arkansas also.

Qualls has along way to go, but is a super athlete. He is 6-4/6-5 and is only effective when dunking. He needs to develop a perimeter game, work on ball handling and shooting beyond 8-10 feet. Has potential to be very good if he would develop those aspects of his game. Gray kid is and has been a stud since he was a 10th grader at washington-marion. Had some legal issues back then hope everything has been cleared up for his sake. He is a flat out game changer and scorer.

In a class that could have 5 players, I would have thought they would be willing to take a flyer on a player like Qualls.

This guy is having a ridiculous season for Arkansas already. He was pretty mediocre last year but check out these numbers as a sophomore already...
26.0 min
14.1 pts
54.7% FG
45.9% 3pt (17 for 37)
70.8% FT
5.0 REB
2.3 AST
0.8 BLK
0.5 STL
1.9 TO
Has a 24.1 Player Efficiency Rating which is elite territory. He's listed at 6'6, 210 pounds and is a college 3 and NBA 2. This is one of those in state guys Trent Johnson didn't even bother to recruit. By the time Johnny Jones got here (this kid is definitely a JJ type of player) he was already completely off the market because he signed to go to Arkansas in the early signing period (late 2011).
Just imagine if JJ had a chance to recruit and sign him. This team would be ridiculous. My guess is JJ wouldn't have gone after Hammink if he could have gotten Qualls.

Without knowing anything of his recruitment it's a safe bet trent didn't even recruit him.
Which was so frustrating because at the time we were so far under the limit for scholarships and Trent wasn't even trying to fill out the roster with guys like this.
6'6, 210 and can jump to the ceiling - didn't even get a second look.
