They changed the combat uniform again? Still sucks, but it’s not as useless or as much of a detriment as the digital pixelated ACU’s I had to wear.
When I was in we still had to spit shine our boots and starch our BDUs. Lol. Talk about useless shite.

Oh God. I remember having to starch my fricking BDU. OK, Class A or B's fine sure, dress uniforms, but starching a BDU and getting a high shine on your boots when you were going to spend half the day in the dirt and dust...
Best of luck to Bequette with his military career. My father went in as enlisted, served a tour, then came back as an officer and enjoyed a long career in the Army and never regretted it.

It was literally the dumbest shite I've ever done in my life. I was always thinking, "thanks to this starch on my uniform, I'm going to stick out like a turd in a punch bowl on any thermal cam."
Made zero sense.

It was make work. Do something to be doing something.
Fine, if you don't want your troops sitting around on their duffs then give them something worthwhile to do.
Schwarzkopf in his autobiography talked about "not breaking crease" back in the 50's where they would starch the uniforms so carefully for the handful of soldiers in the front ranks of inspection that they had to be carried into place. Hell, my dad remembered doing just that.

I used to starch my pants so liberally that they could stand on their own. Lol. The trick was to not use starch, but Elmer's glue instead.
But yeah, make work stuff. Like cleaning your weapon...For 8 fricking hours. Haha

Have done this, came in from the field on a Sunday waiting hours to find the armorer. The hurry up and wait was mind numbing. Carried a book on me all the time and did a hell of a lot of reading in the Army.

You would look for almost anything to cut out the work of it. Buying specific pastes, and shoe shine sprays.. I wasted half my cash at the PX trying to keep from having to spit shine my boots.
My BDU's would stand prior to me putting them on.
and now I don't starch anything..

The best way I ever learned to spit shine was to set the polish on fire and when it's essentially a liquid you spread it on and then go over it with a cotton ball dipped in ice water. Learned to make those bad boys look like black mirrors. Haha. So clear that you could see clouds overhead looking at your boot tips...At dawn.
Lol. Sometimes you'd get the day off if your uniform looked good enough.

Now the dress shoes shine with friggin Windex LoL! I’m glad my experience enlisting was way less intense on the completely pointless bull shite. They were actually revamping the infantry OSUT because we were seriously still training guys like it was Vietnam. Took out bayonets, pug sticks, other crap you literally will never need. Put in MOUT, GFT, updated the m16’s to m4’s with red dots, and extended the duration a few weeks. I’ve heard the distance running is supposed to be less focused on and sprints more important which is smart, because running all out from building to building is more frequent and important than jogging 12mi in shorts.

It was in transition while I was in back in 00-05. We had the upgraded weapons systems, but still wore the old jungle camo BDUs. At the tail end they brought in the new PTs and berets. We had a lot of the urban warfare training stuff in place but still walked around and navigated in the jungles. Lol
Of course, state side people were being sent off to telhe sand box. Glad I didn't go.

I loved the BDUs... Absolutely hate our ABUs.

Meh, only did it at basic. After that, we always had d'womenz on base take care of that for us.
Rev: I knew a lot of guys just like you that would spend a lot of their money/time on uniform care. I just bought 3 extra uniform sets, had them hooked up, and i kept in the locker for formation and then changed after roll call into my working bdus'/boots.
