Facilities - Kudos

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the Athletic Department and Jeff Long, but it seems that just about anyone must acknowledge that the athletic facilities are quite impressive.
A good buddy's son just committed to the hogs after visits pretty much anywhere he wanted to go. Dad's comments were that the weight room, meeting rooms, study areas and overall facilities are totally over the top at Arkansas. Certainly matched by a couple of other top SEC programs, but not exceeded anywhere.
I'm not trying to start a recruiting results thread, just expressing my pride in the facilities we've managed to get in place.

I agree with everything you said. I'll add that facilities are one of things I love seeing our donations go towards. Facilities are something that benefits the players. Facilities can also benefit the fan as well. They help with recruiting. They are something we can be proud of for years to come.
Why anyone bitches about facility improvements is beyond me.

And we can also tell recruits that after next year they won't have to ride a bus for hours to play in a dump in front of a half filled stadium anymore. I can't wait.

Long is masterful when it comes to the financial aspect of being an AD and at organizational skills. There was a reason he was picked to head the CFP committee and establish how it would run. He's going to be second only to Broyles when it comes to developing the athletic facilities and then only because Broyles had to build things up from scratch.
The jury is still out on picking coaches. Bert hasn't delivered as well as hoped for but at the time it seemed like a great get for the program. MA seems to finally be getting traction. In some of the smaller sports Long has gone for younger coaches who can grow into the job and it seems to be paying off.
There are much worse ADs out there we could have. Like the poor jackasses running Ole Miss right now.

Can we build a new trophy case to put our facility trophy in?

Why would you like us to still play in dated facilities? What purpose would that serve?

This my line of thought as well.
Every time I start working up a "Jeff Long sucks and needs to go" furor, I look around and see blithering idiots like Joe Alleva and Ross Bjork at other SEC schools and realize it could be much worse.
In addition to presiding over the Duke lacrosse fiasco - which is unforgivable - Alleva completely shite the bed on the Miles ouster in both 2015 and 2016, and hired a coach with an atrocious SEC record simply because he was butthurt that Tom Herman wanted to take his time.
Bjork singlehandedly exacerbated the NCAA investigation due to continually bungled handling of the situation. It's like he went to the United Airlines school of public relations and is putting it into practice.
Tennessee had a string of terrible AD hires who hamstrung their program from a budgetary standpoint, and they're only just now climbing out of it.
There are better ADs out there than Long, especially as it pertains to running solid football programs, but we could do *much* worse.

Honestly....I think he showed a set when he fired Petrino also. Everyone, including him...knew that we had a coach in place that would win (and if that's your criteria...Long hired him also)...but personally I think that there was no choice left but to cut him loose given the shenanigans he pulled hiring her and lying to everyone.
I realize some will feel we should have kept Petrino...or at least will say that. I was proud of the program having standards and say it took balls to fire him. Bielema was a hire nobody would have thought he could get either...now he needs to deliver, but that's on him. Same with Mike Anderson...time to do your job.

Great post. I've always believed that our facilities have always been as good or better than any other SEC program across all sports.
Can't be any more excited about ridding our program of that shite hole.

Not sure where you got that from, I just want a trophy for once. Thought that would be a great opportunity to put one in the football case.

Our football facilities were pretty outdated until a few years ago when the Smith building was opened. Weight room aside, we had old meeting rooms, no training table, and a badly outdated locker room. The new football center put us back in contention with other SEC programs in the facilities arms race.
Ditto for basketball until we finally got the practice facility.

quote:The reason Petrino was fired was because of the blatantly obvious lawsuit that was happening against the University if he wasn't. That was one of the easiest decisions Long's had to make here in his time here.
I think he showed a set when he fired Petrino also.
