Did we ever discuss Saturday's pooch kick?

We score a TD. Give up a KO return for a TD. We score again and them decide to pooch kick to midfield with around 90 seconds left on the clock. Poor execution, stupid call, or both?
I have no idea what we were doing there and I'm not sure our coaches did either.

Shitty arse coaching and shitty execution. Our kicker should know better than to kick Christian Kirk at all. Our shitty dumb fat arse of a head coach should know better than to pooch that with that much time left. Just kick it away from Kirk or actually kick a touchback. It's not rocket science. aTm had gashed for 5 big plays during the game. What makes him think they won't do it again especially when getting the ball midfield? Bert is a mothafrickin' dumb arse of the highest order.

Had the kicker kicked a touchback to that side of the field all day?
Maybe he was having issues getting it deep into the ez from that side of the field.

Would have been better off with a long squib kick to the left side....you never know how a ball is going to bounce

Of course it lands in the hands of Mr. 12th Man Tarzan who has Red Bull for blood.

Our (un)special teams have been pure cap under Bert. Except for punting. We always seem to be able to punt well. No FGs, no deep kickoffs, and no punt/kick return yardage to help the offense. Did Bert not care about special teams in the B1G or is this a new development?

When is the last time a player had back to back kickoff return touchdowns? I mean at that point I would have just kicked it deep again. Or just kick it out of bounds.

Was definitely a better option than what we did.

It was A&M's first kickoff return for a touchdown in 7 years

It doesn't matter. You don't give the ball to Christian Kirk in that scenario no matter what especially when your ST are shite

I can't even imagine the melt on here if they had kicked to kirk again and he did it again.
You sure as hell wouldn't be saying

There's no reason an SEC program doesn't have a kid on the team who can kick it into the end zone, every single time.
Hell, most FCS programs do.
Bert sucks as a coach. He always misses so many details.
He's unqualified and Jeff Long is too.

I understand what they were going for with the pooch kick, a well executed pooch that tumbles and takes crazy bounces like most do will completely frick up a return attempt. But it has to be somewhat of an end-over-end line drive that hits the turf first in the no man's land about 10 yards behind the front line of blockers and takes several unpredictable bounces off that. The non-return man that ends up with the ball at about the 15 has to focus so much on simply fielding the kick that he's doing his best to just end up with the ball safely in his hands.
The idea itself wasnt flawed, it was the execution (about like the rest of our mistakes). If it went as planned it would've been a good move to neutralize any return.

Bingo. A pooch kick, as opposed to a squib is normally a safe play where you are basically giving them the 30 yard line or so with the expectation that your kicker will kick it far and high enough for your defense to really set up.
A squib always has the possibility of going out of bounds and giving them the forty wasn't a good idea.
The whole thing was just very poorly executed.

I saw this game ending with another OT loss as it played out. Its like it was scripted. Oh so close!
Tired of this song.

I'm fine with pooching it there to keep it out of Kirk's hands but it was HORRIBLE execution
