Took a while, like all major projects do. The growth out that way demanded it.

OK time to start spending massive sums in NWA

Lol jk. AHTD is letting I-30 Bridge over Arkansas River. More investment in Central Arkansas

That has got to be done, huge bottleneck during rush hours. Did I hear they are thinking 6 lanes for that corridor?

5 lanes each side

Do you know where else bottlenecks? I-49 between where the people live and headquarters for 3 of Arkansas's 6 Fortune 500 companies

Yup. The 3 lanes on each side will help. But by the time it's done we will need 4. They should've just made the damn thing 4-5 lanes in each side and be set for a long arse time.

Driving into LR just pisses me off. From Conway to LR it's 6 lanes the whole way and they're redoing all of the bridges and overpasses.

We can't get shite done up here where the infrastructure is always 20 years behind

Not to mention most of the improvements they're doing now in LR should have been done 20 years ago.

No kidding, and it's getting freaking ridiculous. It's a wonder we don't have more accidents than we already do with those barricades creeping out into the left lanes on either side.

It's like they're constantly late to the party on executing projects, and when they do, the planning is already outdated. I'm so glad that LR can consistently get these lane extensions with a stagnant population base while we've got transplants and growth coming out of our ears and can't even get 3 lane roads.

Still growing. MSA projected to be over 815,000 by 2020.

That's cool. Hopefully they go full bore when they get to the 412/49 interchange, sometime around 2050.

Yeah LR is still growing as a metro.

A good comparison, though, is to look at the Little Rock metro as recently as the mid 1990s. 20 years ago, the Little Rock metro was pretty much the same as NWA is right now. LR had several freeways and connectors at that point in its history, essentially the same infrastructure it has right now, minus a few lanes added since then, and this new Big Rock interchange.

NWA has one freeway north and south. That's it. A 412 Bypass should have been done 10 years ago. It will be at least another 10 years before it is complete. By that time, NWA will probably have 600k people.

If they ever finish I-49, Fayetteville folks will have a much easier drive to the Sugar Bowl, hopefully not having to stop at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport.

A little extra salt in our wounds.

Gotta save that money to build a beltway around LR.

There were a lot of projects put on hold a couple of months ago (including overlaying the highway in front of my house). Not just NWA stuff. There's already a pseudo beltway around Little Rock with 30, 440, 40 and 430.
