Fayetteville. Best academic school overall. Kids from there have gone on to the Ivies, Stanford, USC, Sturgis Fellowships, Truman Scholars, etc. Being right in proximity to the University doesn't hurt.

Meh, Central is still better

I'd guess that every major school that is generally regarded as being good has had kids go to top universities. I know ASMSA has had kids go to Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, MIT, West Point, the Air Force Academy, Annapolis, and so on.
The average student from ASMSA gets about $90,000 in scholarship offers (cumulative, from all schools they are accepted to... that doesn't mean each student will actually be able to accept 90k from a particular school).
But again, ASMSA has an asterisk because it has competitive admissions and attracts kids from all over the state.

28/29 on the ACT doesn't seem all that spiffy for a smarty pants school that's designed to take the best students in the state.

I'm glad people aren't going just off magazine rankings. There's a lot of weird things that go in to it like how many students are allowed on free lunch programs and stuff like that. It's a positive the more free lunches you give.
Fayetteville might not be as strong as when we all went, but that's mainly because other schools in the region finally "caught up" and got bigger. There's a wide spread at Fayetteville because of all the different talent levels the school accommodates, but if you want the best you can get the best academics from them. Tons of AP, easy access to take U of A classes if you want, great test scores, and so on.

Why not? That means an average student at ASMSA is in the top 91st percentile nationally, which is probably good for top 93rd percentile or so in Arkansas.
ASMSA's mission and design isn't necessarily to pluck the absolute best students away, it's to give smart, ambitious kids from smaller communities the opportunity to go to school somewhere that offers advanced classes that their hometown schools can't possibly offer.
I'm not sure if even the NWA schools or Central can offer the same kinds of classes and level of instruction that ASMSA can. I know Central as some kind of honors program that is supposed to be really good, so maybe they can. I would guess Fayetteville and company have something similar.

Despite the location, LR Central is probably the best school academically in the state
Seems like every time I read about somebody from Arkansas scoring a 36 on their ACT or something ridiculous on their SAT, they are from Central.

There's a freshman at Central right now who made a 35 on their ACT in the seventh grade

Central is a fantastic school. Only went there for my freshman year, but it was a ton of fun.
